Assassin's Creed III is an upcoming game being developed by Ubisoft that promises an all new assassin, story, setting, and more. The game is claimed to be the longest installment in the franchise and will finally complete the story of Desmond Miles.
Connor (Ratonhaketon) Kenway
At the heart of Ubisoft's upcoming new installment is the new protagonist, Conner, a young half-English, half-Mohawk. His name in his native tongue is Connor Ratohnhakéton (Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo). Raised among the Mohawk, players will get to experience both his childhood and adulthood, similar to how this aspect was displayed in Assassin's Creed 2.
Conflict between his tribe and the white colonists eventually ended with the destruction of his village and the death of his parents. Though Conner's quest is not for vengeance, it is the quest of one confronting tyranny and seeking justice. He is also a far more deadly, up close fighter, dual-wielding a tomahawk and knife to strike down any who stand in his way.
The Setting
Perhaps the most exciting tidbit of information to emerge about Assassin's Creed 3 is its new setting, colonial America. The game will feature 30 years of Connors life from 1753 to 1783 and features the cities of Boston and New York, as well as a wilderness area known as the Frontier which 1/3 of missions will take place. Ubisoft has stated that the game will be bigger than its previous installments; the Frontier alone being 1.5 times bigger than Rome from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. It will also be 20% longer then AC2.
Colonial America is far different from that of the streets of Rome which Ezio watched over. The altered landscape means for an entirely changed way of fighting. This game is all about guerilla warfare, trees, and snow. Where Ezio climbed buildings to assail his opponents from, Conner can climb trees and hop from one to the other. AC3 will also feature new weather stimulations such as snow, fog and rain depending on the seasons, weather will also determine how the Templars and soldiers will move around. This is an entirely new playing field.
The Story
The year is 1775. The American colonies are about to revolt. You are Connor Kenway, an assassin who has sworn to secure liberty for his people and his nation. To do so, you will hunt your enemies across a staggeringly large, open, and realistic world. You will unleash your lethal skills in a violent quest that will take you from chaotic city streets to blood-soaked battlefields in the hostile American wilderness and beyond. You will meet legendary heroes of American history, and together you will conspire to annihilate those who threaten Liberty itself. Assassin’s Creed III invites players to experience the untold story of the American Revolution through the eyes of Conner.
Anvil Tech Engine
Assassin's Creed 3 runs on a brand-new version of Ubisoft's Anvil tech engine. The new engine allows for more detailed character facials, thousands of characters on-screen at any given time, better lighting, and improved graphical enhancements. It has the ability to pump out perhaps the most gorgeous visuals I've ever seen capable in a game. If you thought Frostbite 2 was cutting edge, think again.
Savage Combat
The combat system has been greatly improved, as there are thousands of new animations, none of which are carried over from previous installments. Simple defense and counter-attacks become more difficult, and combat is now focused on putting the player on the offensive, with attacks based on both speed and momentum.
Free running has even been changed to allow Connor to climb trees, swing along branches, etc. You'll even have the ability to hunt animals for skins in the wilderness while at the same time Connor himself might find that he is being hunted by other animals.
The Animus 3.0
The all new Animus 3.0 premiers in AC3, which is what Desmond will use to access his memories of Conner. The popular database feature returns with an all new visual style and historical perspectives through the cipher of in-game character Shawn Hastings.
An epic cast of character for an epic game
Throughout your quest, you’ll encounter the legendary characters who guided a young nation through its tumultuous birth . You’ll meet iconic figures such as General George Washington, the tenacious commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and first President of the young United States. Or Benjamin Franklin, the renowned inventor, scientist, author, and revolutionary statesman. And Charles Lee, the ruthless general who played key roles in some of the war’s bloodiest battles. This is not just your chance to witness history, it’s your chance to make it.
Multiplayer
Ubisoft has remained very quiet on what the multiplayer portion of AC3 will be, but we do know that Ubisoft's Annecy studio (the team behind making the multiplayer for Brotherhood and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory) are at the helm. In a recent listing on xbox.com, online co-op and 2-8 player online multiplayer was stated, yet never confirmed by Ubisoft.
When does the ball drop?
Assassin's Creed III is set to launch on October 30th on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. A Wii U release has also been confirmed, utilizing the controller to free up the HUD. No pre order bonuses have been announced yet for the US.
