Editor's Note: I'm not sure why J. Cosmo counts down to zero (!), but this is a fun list nonetheless and potentially a kickoff to a new Bitmob regular community feature. Keep reading. -Greg
The PlayStation Network (PSN) is -- by far -- my favorite game store. For one, it has so many great games available that I've already spent a fortune in it, but the best part is that I never have to leave my house.
Although PSN is improving by leaps and bounds in what type of content it's offering, you can always find room for improvement. Since I have a soft spot for original PlayStation games, I figured I'd throw together a short list of my most wanted PS1 releases for PSN. This has also been spurred by my recent purchase of a PSP, as handheld gaming is what I do the most, and I can play all of these games on the go, which only adds to their value.
And we're off!
5) Tomba!
I missed this game the first time around and I always wanted to try it. Great 2D platformers never really lose what makes them so great, and I heard it added a few unconventional things to help it stand out.
Current ebay price: $50 and up.
Wanted PSN price: $5.99. I doubt people would pay a premium for this game, so I would hope that it releases at the standard price -- that way, the maximum number of people would be able to (re)enjoy this game.
I only ever played a demo of this game, but man was it addicting. Even though I knew the solutions, I couldn't help but play it over and over and over. It was original, smart, and fun puzzler.
Current ebay price: $60 and up.
Wanted PSN price: $5.99. Again, I don't think very many people would pay more, plus it's an obscure game probably not a ton of people remember.
Although not nearly as successful as Parappa the Rapper, UmJammer Lammy was still an interesting game. Benjamin Torrey already wrote a great piece about the wackiness of the game, which only reminded me that I wanted to replay the craziness. And maybe, since I'm older, it would make more sense...or not.
Current ebay price: Cheap. About $4.
Wanted PSN price: $5.99. The demand isn't too great for this game in the resell market, so I can't see charging any more. But throw it up there and I'm sure people will buy it.
This was my first Final Fantasy and as such holds a special place in my memory. Also, I have a sordid history with it. My saved game was magically erased from the memory card. Four times. One of the times I was on the fourth disc. I kid you not. I almost felt like someone was telling me, "Don't finish the game!" It's been long enough; it's time to finish what I started so long ago.
Current ebay price: Not too bad. Around $20. It's worth noting that Amazon has it up for $16.49 brand new.
Wanted PSN price: $9.99. It's a large game, so I really wouldn't mind paying a little more for it. Plus I would be able to take it with me wherever I go, which makes it that much better.
By far my favorite PS1-era game and one I hope gets a proper 2D sequel at some point -- I know it's not going to happen, but I can hope, right? Mind-bending puzzles? Check. Hilarious story? Yes. Rhyming? Oh yeah. If you never played this game, you definitely missed out. And what better way to have the opportunity to visit the game than by releasing it digitally.
Current ebay price: $15 and up. This one ranges wildly for some reason. Some brand-new copies are going for upward of $50.
Wanted PSN price: $5.99. Although I would pay $9.99 for it, if only because I absolutely love it.
0) Silent Hill
What's this? A bonus inclusion? Of course. How can I limit myself to just five? Silent Hill was such a great, terrifying game. I know the fog was used because of hardware limitations...but was there anything creepier than walking around the town, hearing the radio static and wondering which way they were coming from? Not much, my fellow Mobbers. Not much.
Current ebay price: About $40. Although brand new copies are well over $100.
Wanted PSN price: $5.99. I don't think I'd pay any more. Although I really like the game, I can't imagine anyone paying more than the standard price.
So there you have it. My most wanted PSN releases. I know I'm not the only one who wants more PSN love, so let's hear it. What games do you guys want put up for digital consumption?
Also, I figured I'd try and start another Bitmob meme (thanks to Pixel Revolt for suggesting we do more): Bitmob Most Wanted List. The list can be about anything, really. You could write about your most wanted developer new releases, or about which developers you'd love to see collaborate and bring out a new game(s). Everyone always has such wonderful ideas -- I'd love to hear about everyone's most wanted stuff. Just be sure and tag it "Bitmob Most Wanted List" (without the quotes) so it's easily found.
