Bitmob Wants You: To tackle your backlog (and write about it)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Time for a shameful confession: I didn't beat Deus Ex: Human Revolution when it came out last year.

In fact, I can think of quite a few games that came out last year that I either didn't finish or just straight-up missed. And I have to get the guilt off my chest.

Since we're all one happy support group here at Bitmob, I thought you'd like to join me. And, as always at the 'Mob, when we play games, we write about them. That means it's time for another Bitmob Wants You writing prompt.

Here's how this is gonna go down:

1. Play and write an article about an older game (before 2012) you haven't finished. A few hundred words will suffice, although you can go longer if you'd like.

2. Make sure you put Backlog in the tags for your article. That'll make it easy for me to find and collect them later. And be sure to tag any other games your article mentions.

3. Post your articles on Bitmob by Tuesday, May 8. That will give you two full weeks to tackle any title of your choosing. You don't necessarily have to finish the game you pick, though -- just write about it.

If you want a perfect example, check out this article that Bitmobber Mark Purcell just posted about 2009 XBLA title Shadow Complex.

Got it? Then go forth, play, and write!

I have a very bad video game buying habit. Own over 80 titles, and have beat maybe 25-30. Ugh.

I'm right there with you, Brian. I frequently fail to get to the end of my games. Now's the perfect time for us to repent!

My most notorious backlog game, followed by Mass Effect 1 and FFXIII, is Fallout 3 -- bought it about two months after it first came out, and I've been playing it on/off ever since (from my guess, I'm a little over 3/4ths done with the story with about 80 hours logged, but I'm still just exploring the Wasteland for sidequests). I'm almost scared about the idea of trying to finish it in the next two weeks...

You don't necessarily have to finish it -- just play long enough to write some thoughts about it. (Although maybe you just need to let the game go... :) )

No prob! I was looking for an article to use as an example, and yours was right there, just when I needed it. :)

I haven't had a backlog since last gen :D Guess I should write about any SNES or Genesis game, since I never beat a single one of those. To be completely honest, I probably still can't.

You've played EVERYTHING you've bought? You're a stronger man than I, sir! :)

I typically only buy one game at a time, maybe two, and I marathon session my way through it. I rarely replay old games.

Now when it comes to books, pretty much all of them are on my pile o' shame. If only this was a book community. Then I'd have an excuse to finish one :(

I've got plenty of games sitting around on my Steam account that I haven't even touched yet (damn indie bundles and their absurdly good deals). Was thinking of making some sort of regular feature out of it to make it more fun. And now this comes up. Perfect timing!

It was destiny! :)

Seems like I've been playing catchup with my backlog for years.  Almost everything I play is at least six months old.  I just started Eternal Sonata today!

Never got to play that one, Kevin. I'll be looking forward to reading your thoughts!

One of the best rpgs to date. Enjoy.

I'm too afraid to collect a humongous backlog, because Japanese RPGs take a long time to complete. Honestly, I still haven't finished Final Fantasy 7 for the life of me. I gave up after that ridiculous five minute Supernova attack. Stupid Sephiroth...

This is pretty much what I do anyway, I'm in.  I've been working on a post that might fit this, but think I'll use this challenge as an excuse to dig in the crates for another old game

*Looks at backlog*

Damn...

In the past two months, I've completed (or almost completed) six games from my backlog. I did start documenting it (brilliantly titled "Marching through my Backlog"—It was in March… March, Marching… Geddit? Nevermind.) but got too carried away with the gaming side!

I've still got 11 games I haven't played or have barely touched, and another 12 I haven't completed on my 360 alone… Perhaps I should continue the resolution forward and start documenting it again!

Oh man, my backloggery is a painful reminder of what I still need to play. I might go after one of the games in the HD collections I own; it's like these companies are giving me a second chance!
