Bitmob's video-game wishlist: What we really want for Christmas

I'm still looking for that Virtual Boy I lost years ago. I'm really jonesing for some Mario Clash. I don't suppose you could send me a replacement? I think yours is probably the only factory that would still make them.

Omar Yusuf, writer
For years, you and your elves have successfully delivered comic anthology after another to my doorstep -- for that, I'm grateful. But once and for all, it's time for you to fruitfully marry comic books with video games, my two loves. Previous attempts have resulted in embarrassing attempts at entertainment, so I'm wishing for a Deadpool video-game this Christmas. The more fourth-wall-breaking antics, the better!

Rob Savillo, editor
I humbly request that Xenonauts actually be the X-Com remake we've all been waiting to release for the last 17 years. I've suffered through enough sub-par, UFO-titled "inspirations" already, haven't I? It's like peeling back the wrapping paper to reveal a Sega Genesis when all we really wanted was a Super Nintendo...year after year.

(P.S. Please lend a programming hand to Project Dark and Dead State as well!)

Alex Cronk-Young, moderator
I would like a Shining Force 4. None of those stupid Shining Whatever games that aren't strategy-RPGs but a full-blown proper entry in the Shining Force series. And if you could get Camelot to stop working on Mario-themed sports titles and Golden Sun games and come back to the series, that'd be even better. Let me clarify even further: I don't want Shining Force Neo, Shining Force EXA, or Shining Force Feather either. I want SHINING F-ING FORCE! Don't give me a game that just has the word "Force" thrown in so that fans will get excited before realizing it is nothing like the real Shining games. Please?

That's all I want, Santa. Next Christmas I'll ask for a new Suikoden that is actually as good as the first three, but this year I'd like you to concentrate all your gift-giving powers on fixing this Shining Force fiasco.

Chas Guidry, writer
I would like all three games in the Mother series on a single DS cart, please. Of course, I ask for this every year to no avail. So, as a backup, I would also like for you to revive the Wii's Virtual Console and convince Xseed Games to localize Retro Game Challenge 2.  All I want for Christmas is to play a bunch of old games. Is that too much to ask?

Brett Bates, managing editor
I would like the days extended from 24 hours to at least 36, so I can actually find the time to play the games in my fast-growing pile of shame.

Layton Shumway, writer
Can I please have more space-combat games? I miss the days of barricading myself in my dad's home office with the lights off, headphones on and Thrustmaster in my hand, blowing up Rebel scum in TIE Fighter*. I want an updated version. I'll even play as the Rebels if I have to! (A new Descent game would be nice, too.)

*Editor's Note: We had a lot of fun at Layton's expense when he originally wrote this. You are welcome to join in.

Jay Henningsen, editor
I don't want any specific games...I want them all. If that's too much to deliver, I'll settle for one of those Steam press accounts. You know, to help me write all those articles....

Oh, and a new computer to play them all on would be great too.

Omri Petitte, writer
Please use some of that magical dust hidden up your nostrils and hasten the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The clashing of red and green lightsabers offers a colorful Christmas motif, and let's face it -- this is a much more plausible request than wishing for Half-Life 2: Episode 3. But if I need to ask the impossible of you, I will. Don't test me, old man.

Don't forget to post what you really want for Christmas in the comments!

I would like Mass Effect 2 and Singularity. Also that Bad Company 2: Vietnam expansion looks like it's well worth the $15.

All I want for Christmas is the release date for The Last Guardian.  And preferably let it be before 2012.

I'll second Brett's wish -- my backlog is close to 30 games (and a dozen books, several magazines, and a bunch of interesting-looking things on the Internet).

Barring an extension to the number of hours in a day, I'd take the world standing still for a few weeks so I could finally play Planescape: Torment and Arcanum.

My Christmas games wish is more strong narratives. I think with the exception of Fragile Dreams, I've played everything I wanted to this year.

@Richard: That's the thing -- it's not just games I don't have time for! So many books to read, so much net-surfing to do....

I second Bryan's wish for a The Last Guardian release date.

My video game wish is to trade all of it in for a cute girl with a considerable amount of self respect, that resembles Hitomi. Even if just a little. But she has to be nice.

There.
