I love Dead Space, I thought that the single-player for Dead Space 2 was awesome and that also goes for the original however when playing the multi-player aspect of the title I fell in awe of how much of a let-down it truly was. I was left pondering on what could of been, I don't know why I felt so disappointed if it was my high expectations towards a franchise which I care so much about, comparing the experience to others such as Left 4 Dead or Aliens Vs Predator or a combination of the two.
I couldn't help but think of ways in which the multi-player could be improved for example specific roles; imagine playing as a CEC engineer using your hacking capabilities to open a door for you and your comrades to pass through in an effort to escape a looming necromorph attack , a demolitions expert using explosives to cause a makeshift barricade against a wave of enemies or a medic; frantically trying to heal a VIP patient whilst your security team fight to protect you in the mitts of a necromorph onslaught. This idea of specific role within the team would also take care of the repetitiveness; although being objective based the human multi-player consists mostly of going to one location holding a button down then moving on to the next area to once again hold a button down and I believe that this idea of specific roles could give way to many different objectives the player could find themeselves doing; making the game much more exciting.
My thoughts weren't confined to the human playing aspect of the multi-player but also that of the necromorph side. Out of the numerous types of necromorph one engages during the single-player portion of the game you can only play as four during the online? I thought this wasn't enough, imagine again if you got to play as the various other necromorphs you encountered during your time alone on The Sprawl, would it not be fun to crawl along the ground as an Infector, infecting the bodies of the dead; recruiting more to your cause, to charge down the corridor as a Brute crushing humans under the immense strength of your arms or even an exploder; waiting round corners, watching the humans waiting for right the moment to come out of hiding and strike trying to deal maximum damage in your suicidal explosion.
Another improvment I would of like to of seen is an increase in the number of maps as well as the variations between them and maybe a section involving the zero-G mechanic
On a final note I would just like to say that I'm a huge fan of the franchise, these are just some thoughts of mine.
I imagine balancing multiple classes on both sides was beyond what the developers could do with the time they had. Development on that would take staff off of the single-player mode, and EA was more likely to succeed with that than challenging Team Fortress and Call of Duty.
Edit: By the way, please don't go overboard with tags. You only need to include the games you mention and a specific element of games if necessary.
I'd like to offer a grammar tip: Using "could have" instead of "could of."
In Paragraph 1, you use the phrase "I was left pondering on what could of been." "Could of been" sounds right, because of the way we use that construction in speech, but the only correct way to write that is using the word "have" rather than "of." The reason a lot of people think "of" is correct is because when that type of verb construction is spoken, we shorten it to things like "could've" or "should've." The shortened "have" sounds like "of."
Anyway, "have" should replace "of" to keep the verb phrase correct. "Have" works as the auxiliary verb for "been" while using "of" there doesn't do anything, grammatically speaking.
