Has anyone seen an angry guy with glasses that looks like Brett Bates, only angrier? Yeah, don't tell him you've seen me. I made some poor gambling decisions.
News Blips:
Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 are the big winners at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Science awards. Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption won in five categories -- art direction, game direction, gameplay engineering, character performance, and Action Game of the Year. Meanwhile, Bioware's space opera, Mass Effect 2, took home trophies for story, Role-Playing/Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year, and Game of the Year. I knew I shouldn't have bet Brett that Alpha Protocol would win 10 awards, including Best Dance Simulation! Now, I just need to finish these blips before he finds me and breaks my knee caps.
The Netflix-streaming DVD for the Wii will no longer function after February 16. The Netflix Channel has been available for download on the Wii for a few months now, so no one should miss an episode of season two of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. However, it is odd that they would cut off support for the disc, because it can't be difficult to support those who still use it. Although, Nintendo could have an ulterior motive. Pirates may still be using the disc, because downloading the Netflix Channel requires users to update their Wii -- and that update would wipe the console clean of all modifications. While it is nice that Nintendo may be using the carrot and stick approach, like Jeff Goldblum's dinosaurs, pirates will find a way.
Team Meat brings new levels in through the loophole they left open in Super Meat Boy for Xbox Live Arcade. As someone who just spent $15 for four decent maps and a zombie level I will never play, I'm feeling a bit salty about the idea of two guys giving away dozens of levels for free. It is also impressive that these two guys developed a way to deliver these levels directly into their game without the need of the Microsoft certification process. Next week, Teh Internetz feature in SMB will become populated with fan-made levels and expert remixes. The fan-made stages are, obviously, made by users creating content on the PC, and the expert remixes are levels from the original game redesigned to be more difficult. More difficult? Super Meat Boy is like the tiger mom of video games -- if the kid isn't crying while playing, then it isn't difficult enough. [Shacknews]
PAX East three-day passes are going fast -- could be all gone by the time you decide to act. There are less than 1,000 passes left. If you plan on attending for the entire weekend and don't have your pass yet, then you shouldn't take any more time. Those passes will be gone in a blink of an eye and you'll be up poo creek without any way of getting into PAX. Well, one-day passes will still be available, but I'm going to be there all weekend, and I'll miss you the other two days. Head to PAXsite.com to register.
