Examples of Arc Rise Fantasia's Terrible Voice Acting

Voice acting should be one of the primary concerns of any role-playing game developer/localizer, and yet far too many games suffer from poor and awkward performances. I'm unsure why so many games have poor voice acting, though the lack of a budget for real voice actors probably has a lot to do with it. Arc Rise Fantasia -- a Japanese role-playing game for the Wii -- has some of the worst voice acting I've heard. Let's laugh at it!

"The devil must be beating his wife." That's the line of the century.

That's not terrible, that's just average. Really, having been exposed to Anime dubs for the past decade, I've seen a lot worse... here's an example, in video form! http://vimeo.com/1025466

What that is abysmal even for a JRPG. There's no way I'd be able to play more than a few minutes of that game. It would drive me crazy.

This isn't as bad as the voice acting in Kalypso's Disciples 3.

"Let me heal you with Magic!"

"Yes please."

That was awful, even for a JRPG.

It's a shame, cause there are some genuinely good examples, even in JRPGs. I remember the Lunar games on the PS1 were both pretty good. And, err... I'm struggling to think of more right now.

I'm going to use "The devil must be beating his wife" in any situation possible from now on.

"Oh shoot, they're out of Fruit Loops."

"The devil must be beating his wife."
