Memorial Day is a time were Americans take a moment to be reminded that freedom isn’t free; it cost the lives of patriots who sacrifice their youth for a noble cause. We tend to celebrate by visiting war memorials or enjoy a war movie marathon.
Gamers could also have their own Memorial Day fun by gathering a few friends along with a 24 pack and enjoy some war games. It would be like a war movie marathon only with video games.
Some of the most obvious choices would either be Call of Duty: Black Ops or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty-series has grown to become the most popular war game franchises so it’s no surprise this would be any gamer’s first choice.
The only drawback to Call of Duty is that it lacks the reality or seriousness of war. An alterative for those who actually want to simulate war would be Medal of Honor (2010). Playing Medal of Honor feels more appropriate for as it tries to tell Memorial Day a war story.
Yet for those who want game that has the sprit of patriotic sacrifice than Homefront might be the ideal choice. Homefront “what if”-scenario has gamers fight in a future America that has been crushed by North Korea and its during the struggle that your band of patriots will reignite the Sprit of Freedom.
But no video game marathon on Memorial Day is complete without killing a few Nazi’s. WWII was the war that changed the world and has inspired game developers for years. Call of Duty: World at War along with Medal of Honor: Airborne are fine examples of WWII-games to enjoy.
It also never hurts to dig up some old classics. Operation Flashpoint, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and Call of Duty are few classics gamers could enjoy on Memorial Day.
So enjoy the war game binge but don’t forget that freedom isn’t free.
