The Modern Warfare 2 end credits are really cool. Basically, Inifinity Ward made a museum of each mission you play during the course of the game; and while the credits are rolling, the camera moves from exhibit to exhibit, showcasing the main themes of each level.

When the camera hits the scene, the characters in the exhibit begin animating. It's a really neat and original way of rolling the credits and summing up the entire game.

After I watched the credits -- something I always do, just in case there's a hidden scene or something -- the first thing I thought was, "Gee, I wish I could play that level." Infinity Ward, with their time-traveling mind-reading abilities granted my wish. It's right there, under Mission Select.

When the mission loads up, you're free to move from exhibit to exhibit, watching the characters animate;  you can even kill the characters if you want to (you sick monkey).

I watched the characters animate, but was disappointed that the plaque that rests in front of each exhibit doesn't have any readable information. Oh well. There are some guns to grab and shoot, and there's a room with all of the vehicles that you can look at. Okay, not nearly as cool as I was hoping.

But then...then I saw something. What's this? A button?

Moving my character over the button, some text pops up: "Do NOT push!"

Everyone knows that in video games, when you're asked not  to do something, it really means the opposite: Push the button!

[Spoilers]
After I pushed the button ever person in the exhibits came to life and instantly began shooting, grenading, and generally trying to make sure I never made it out of the museum alive. It's really intense, and unless you're prepared for it, the guy with the full-body-armor will destroy you. If you're able to kill everyone, the game makes a noise -- similar to the one you hear when a round is over in the Spec Ops Mode. Actually, I think it's the same noise.
Then you can go to a different room and push that button, resulting in the same thing happening. And if you destroy all of them, you hear the noise again. But then everyone in the previous room is back in their exhibit. It's weird. I beat them all a couple of times in a row, but nothing else happens.
It's a fun distraction, but I wonder if there's something else I'm missing. Feel free to let me know!
[End Spoilers]

So Modern Warfare 2 has a metagame. It's fun, but difficult. And I'm not sure if there's really any point. But isn't that the point of a metagame?

What metagames have you guys played and enjoyed?

My favorite metagame is, and I think always will be, seeing how many stars I can get in a GTA game and then seeing if I can get away from the cops/FBI/Army. Good times!!!

And what a great topic for a post!

@Lance - Wait, is "meta game" one word?

And yes! I loved doing that in GTA. I would usually climb to the highest spot, stock-up on sniper ammo and then see how long I could last.

@Cosmo - I have no idea if it is one word or two. I think it is two. My bad.

@Lance - Actually, I think it is one word. :)

Like Lance - going to Area 51 (instant 6-star wanted rating) on a motorbike in San Andreas then doing a lap of the entire state. I hope they have a future GTA.

The achievements in Geometry Wars RE2 were pretty clever aternative ways to play the game too.

@Alex - Oh yeah, I loved the Achievements in Geometry Wars 2! It was the most creative and fun way to get Achievements. Good call!
