People seem really surprised about Sega including Sega Bass Fishing in its Dreamcast Collection, and I'm one of them. What the hey, Sega?

News Blips:

Sega announces the Dreamcast Collection for Xbox 360 and PC will hit store shelves February 22. Don't get your hopes up for a 20-game omnibus, though. This collection only includes four games, and one of them is the aforementioned Sega Bass Fishing. The other three are Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5 Part 2, and Crazy Taxi. In the 10 years since the demise of the Dreamcast, Sega's last console, many gamers have come to revere this mythical system killed before its time. Sega apparently wants to put a stop to that, using the Dreamcast Collection to remind people that their software for the device wasn't really all that.

The hacker who jailbroke the PS3, George Hotz (aka GeoHot), appears in court with lawyer to contest Sony's claims. "This case is not about Sony Computer Entertainment America LLP attempting to protect its intellectual property or otherwise seek bona fide relief from the court," said Hotz in a statement to the court. "Rather, it's an attempt for Sony to send a message to any would-be individual that attempting to use any hardware it manufacturers in a way it does not deem appropriate will result in harsh legal consequences, irrespective of any legal basis or authority for such action." Hotz's attorney took issue with Sony filing the charges in California even though Hotz does not live there, along with the assumption by Sony that Hotz violated the terms of service of the PlayStation Network. Hotz claims he never created a PSN account and therefore never agreed to the platform's TOS. [G4TV]

THQ nearly signed former Modern Warfare heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. After West and Zampella were severely Kotick'd at Activision, they were one sticking point away from signing a publishing deal with THQ. That sticking point? West and Zampella demanded ownership of any IP that they created. "My responsibility to our stockholders and to my CEO and the company is to build an IP library," said Danny Bilson, vice president of core games at THQ. The company has slowly built a respectable stable of franchises over the last two years, and Bilson said he was afraid to set a precedent where all of THQ's teams could negotiate ownership of their IPs.

Tactical FPS Breach is headed to PC and Xbox Live Arcade on January 26. Breach is from the same team who in 2009 stopped work on the Iraq War-themed Six Days in Fallujah after a backlash against the content of that game caused them to lose funding. Breach features elements from Six Days but is a much smaller, download-friendly game. Breach may also sound familiar to you from when its source code was stolen during PAX East last year.
