News Blips: Game Room Repurchases, 125 Million-plus DSes, a Cool Million for Perfect Game, and More

Why would Microsoft charge consumers for games in the Game Room that they've already bought over Xbox Live Arcade? Oh, that's right -- it's because Microsoft likes money.

News Blips:

If gamers want the XBLA games that they've already bought to appear in Microsoft's upcoming virtual arcade, Game Room, they must repurchase them. Apparently, classic arcade games available on XBLA are "revamped" versions, and the same title for the Game Room, though less expensive, is considered the "original" version. Ahh, the fine tradition of buying the same game repeatedly in slightly modified incarnations. I know this all too well. [Game Informer]

Nintendo recently announced that they have sold over 125 million DSes. Nintendo proclaimed this accomplishment along with their recent earnings, which show a decline in net sales over the past year. Regardless, between April 2009 and December 2009, Nintendo still managed to sell 23.35 million DSes and 17.05 million Wiis. Needless to say, the Big N's money-printing machines are still running quite well.

2K Sports is so confident in the new pitching mechanics in Major League Baseball 2K10 that they're offering $1 million to the first player to pitch a perfect game while playing it. Contestants must play the game on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and have until May 2 to qualify. Who thinks they've got it in them? We want a pitcher, not a belly-itcher.

Industry Gamers reports that Electronic Arts plans on running a Dante's Inferno ad during Super Bowl XVIV. CNN Money claims that CBS plans on charging $2.6 million for a 30-second Super Bowl ad this year, so I hope that EA puts together a damn good TV spot for the game. I'd recommend that they leave out the segments of the game that involve Dante killing babies.

Game Room really should have been built to support XBLA, not live along side it as some weird separate entity.
@Lionel definitely, but I'm sure this way works out the best for Microsoft's pockets.
