I wouldn't wish being a The Tester contestant on my worst enemies.
News Blips:
Sony allows fans to vote for whom they want to see embarrass themselves on Season Two of the reality-game-show The Tester. Just head on over to the show's casting site to help decide who will compete to become a Sony QA tester. Why do I get a feeling this will just turn into a morbid "who's the most pathetic and can give us the most laughs" contest?
Xbox 360 motion-control peripheral Kinect can (sorta) work with the player sitting down. A Microsoft rep told Joystiq that "Kinect can be used while sitting when an experience is developed with sitting in mind." Additionally, the rep stressed that it's going to be "natural for Kinect games to be designed to get you off the couch: dancing, running, dodging, bending, and kicking." Well, if I were a wheelchair-bound gamer, I know what motion controller I'd pass on.
Rockstar brings the undead and supernatural to Red Dead Redemption. Today, the developer announced a smorgasbord of downloadable content that they have planned for their open-world, Wild West game. Perhaps the most interesting part is the "Undead Nightmare Pack," which contains zombie characters for multiplayer, new animals, additional single-player challenges set in ghost towns and cemeteries, and more. These days, zombies show up just about everywhere. So, hell, why not in Red Dead?
Insomniac Games' new status as a multiplatform developer saddens Sony. Shuhei Yoshida, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios, went down memory lane with Develop, telling them of Insomniac that "we grew up together...Insomniac's first title was on our first platform." Recently, the developer of Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank went from making games exclusively for Sony's systems to working with EA's Partners Initiative in order to expand their resources and make games for different platforms. Hey, at least you guys are still buddies and won't have to defriend each other on Facebook!
