Editor's note: I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but I love how their players get together regularly for tournaments. It's pretty damn cool. Isaiah's going to this weekend's Season's Beatings. Are any other Bitmobbers going? -Jason


This weekend the fourth installment of the annual Season's Beatings, one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the U.S., takes place in my lovely city, Columbus, OH.

Hosted by Fugee and Ghaleon, Season's Beatings is sure to make some worldwide noise in the fighting game community -- Shoryuken.com has a 50-page thread dedicated to the event.

Headlining the event are longtime rivals Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong, who you may remember from a certain epic match years ago. They've had only a few encounters since that match in other tournaments. This is the first time that they'll be put on center stage in a best-of-10 match in a little game called Street Fighter 4.

 

I'm covering the latter half of the event on Saturday and Sunday, so be ready to get photographed (and if you don't want me to take your picture, tell me. I'm not a jerk...well, at least about this).

I still don't think Justin is ready yet. Daigo has great zoning with Ryu, and it'll be hard for Justin to get in with his dive kick mixups. His Fei Long is getting really good though. It would be interesting to see Ryu vs Fei. We'll see, I hope someone gets some footage. Well, Justin did do pretty good against him at EVO this year...much better than I thought he would. I'm still hoping Daigo crushes him again, but it's looking less likely than it did in the past. Justin's not the best in the US for nothing.

@Erick Great article. And thanks for posting this up Jason, I've had to cover Magic and FPS tourney's before [two genres I'm not head over heels about] so it means a lot.

Hey Louie I don't know exactly where in FL you are located, but I found this if it's near you: Final Round Arcade at Mall of the Americas 7795 W Flagler Street Miami, Florida 33144 $2 an hour or $5 all night Sun-Thur, $10 all night Fri and Sat. Two different machines, one with Japanese parts and one with American. So Justin>Sanford and Daigo>Justin...but Sanford>Daigo? Interesting turn of events this past weekend. If anyone was gonna beat Daigo, I'm glad it was someone other than Justin, cuz he annoys me. Daigo just needs to work on his matchups against console characters.
