Sega Lives Evil Ages: The Dreamcast in Palindromes

Editor's note: The Dreamcastiversary may be over, but I couldn't resist this piece full of Dreamcast-related palindromes from Mr. Hiscock. -Jason

I am a huge fan of palindromes. For the uninitiated, a palindrome is a word or phrase that's written the same forward and backward.

And they are incredibly hard to write.

I wanted to write a nice article about how I'd coveted the Dreamcast since its launch but could only get in its dying days (in fact, I bought it brand new with three pack-in games for $99). But since everyone else is going to do that -- and probably do it better than I -- I decided on a venture into the world of palindromes.

Of course, it only makes sense. Who gets it backward more often than Sega? And despite their failed attempts at consoles, they went right back to the start and did it all again. And again.

To celebrate the wonderful little console that was, here is a series of 14 palindromes about various aspects concerning the Dreamcast and some of its games.

And forgive the broken English and vague allusions. Palindromes are tricky business with strict rules, and the backward/forward aspect of them comes before meaning.

Should any palindrome require explanation, drop a comment, and I will gladly explain how exactly it came to be and relates to the concept. (I've kept spelling mistakes to a minimum, and I only included "alternate" spellings where precedents exist).

On the press' reception:
God said "No! On dias, dog!"
Devo loved. Game Macros sell. Lessor came. Mag? Devo loved.

On the VMU:
Risen off again, I'm mini. A gaff one, sir!

On Soul Calibur (including Voldo, the bizarre end sequences, and the Edge Master):
Strap on made Voldo be. Bod love! Dam, no parts!
Gnarled omegas. Sage Model Rang.

On Crazy Taxi:
O, cat taxi, nix at taco.

On Seaman:
Level on? No Level!
Doc, mar even. Never am cod.

On Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing:
OK work: Cut nuts and DNA. Stun, tuck, row: KO!

On Shemue and the cancelation of Shenmue Online:
80 moods, boredom mode robs. Doom: '08

On the competition:
Lo, be soon fun ETA PS2 2 spat enuf. Noose BOL.

On the proliferation of bootleg and pirated games:
Red, nice time, kill labor. Rob all like mite cinder.

On the emulation scene:
Emul frails retro sorters. Liar flume.

On the failure:
Nemo never is won. Now sir, even omen.
(As this is obscure, this refers to the NES game Little Nemo: The Dream Master, what I hope will be taken as a clever reference, probably less so now that I've explained it.)

I hope that I got it all right and that there are no mistakes.... If you spot one, let me know, so I can kill myself for an hour trying to fix it.

They might as well just give you the ability to post right to the front page. All of your articles will end up there anyway. haha.

Well done again sir. I continue to marvel at your creativity.

Brilliant!
The only one I'm having trouble understanding is "on the competition", namely the last part "Noose BOL". But that's more my problem than yours. ;)

Bill of Landing, from wikipedia: a document issued by a carrier to a shipper, acknowledging that specified goods have been received on board as cargo for conveyance to a named place for delivery to the consignee who is usually identified.

Oh ho!

Pets one time. Emit Eno step!

Praise and music reference all in one!

(Also, that Escher painting is an example of recursiveness, not reversibility.)

I used it more for the its general infinite loop quality.

And I'm joshing you. Obviously, it's a finite loop, because they will eventually be fully drawn. I imagine they'd fight to the death on a never ending staircase.
