The Answer

I have given this matter some serious thought, and decided that video games are not... I mean video games are art.  Phew, I almost made a terrible mistake.  There still a waste of time though.  Alright, moving on.  What?  That's not enough?  You want more?  You want at least 6 paragraphs?  A couple pictures?  A Youtube video?  My words aren't enough?  Awww, man...

Well, the whole debate really depends, I think, on the definition of art.  Ebert touched on it, then said it was basically futile to talk about.  But before you can say video games aren't art, you have to answer this question:  What is Ebert?  I mean, What is Art?

Now would be a perfect time to employ the Socratic method, but unfortunately, I'm no Socrates.  Does anyone else think Ebert would be just the perfect guinea pig for Socrates though?  He reminds me of Euthyphro, so sure he knew what justice was that he was going to try his own father.  Strange that Ebert quoted Aristotle, but would overlook the teacher of the teacher who taught him.  So the question, ladies and gentleman, and Ebert, is: What is Art, and the answer...

You know what, I think I'm going to have to revise my first sentence, and say I've decided I don't know.  It's hard to say you don't know, isn't it?  So hard, in fact, that we claim to know things when the truth is we're just as lost as the next person.  I catch myself doing it all the time, so I can forgive Ebert for making such an incredible statement.  It happens to the best of us!

But before I conclude, I'd like to share one of my favorite quotes on the subject by John Lennon, who said that the "role of the artist is to express how we all feel, not to tell people how to feel, not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all."

So there you go.  The answer is I don't know and neither do you.  Socrates might, but he's dead.  And you're not going to get any pictures either.  Who's with me!  No one... alright, here you go.  Here's a completely unrelated picture to the topic I'm talking about:
