The Real Beatles Vs. The Beatles: Rock Band

Some of the Bitmob crew got together last week for a little hands-on time with The Beatles: Rock Band. That coverage was embargoed until today, but we're now able to share this important news with the world: Shoe and I are most likely the next Lennon and McCartney.

Neither Demian and his hot red pants, nor Shoe's girlfriend Raychul could focus on the simple task of playing their instruments while Shoe and I harmonized during "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Yellow Submarine." It was truly magical, if I do say so myself.

OK, most of that previous text is a lie. What is true; however, is that The Beatles: Rock Band is a lot of fun. Beatlemaniacs in particular will enjoy the small touches that Harmonix has put into the game just for fans of the Fab Four. The outfits, locations, facial expressions, instruments -- everything is just as it was when the Beatles ruled the airwaves in the 1960's. Just how accurate is the game? We've paired screenshots from TB:RB with their real-life counterparts (or as close as we could find) to let you decide for yourself.

Tons more after the jump:

The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964

Performing in Japan at the Budokan in 1966

A rare performance of "Revolution"

An imagined performance of "Here Comes The Sun"

As you can see, quite a bit of work has gone into making the virtual Beatles as close to the real-life versions as possible. We'll have more thoughts and impressions to share on the game in a few weeks, but until then, feel free to discuss what you've seen so far in the comments below.

I can only imagine how this could have gone so very wrong. I'm just glad they kept that real Beatles flavour, at least they have from the looks of things.

Please make a Queen: Rock Band. The Wembley Stadium performance as a venue would be mind-blowing.

Posting the Wii box art is obviously a subconscious expression of your desire to bang Yoko Ono.

Such a fanboy!

Also, regarding the third picture, I had no idea Stan Laurel was in the Beatles.

It was the first box art that came up in my Google search. Yeah, that's what happened. I totally don't want to bang Yoko Ono. Don't even try to get me to admit otherwise. I'm over her!

Looks really great! I'm excited for the game, and I know my housemate is going to want to buy this the day it comes out. :)

I would love to see a Yellow Submarine stage with some of the imagery from the movie. 2D animated or even just cel-shaded characters would be excellent.

Look at the picture of Paul from the Ed Sullivan performance - they got the eye line right!
