I was checking out the Twin Galaxies website and saw they have a Top Ten Most Difficult Games of All-Time list compiled from lists of TG World Record gamers. I know, another top ten list, but I have to agree with a lot of these, maybe not their places in the list though.

#10 on the list I've never played but I've sure heard of it from other gamers. Do Don Pachi (Sega Saturn) is a game that gets harder as it goes along, just like most but it's bright and eyepopping graphics can be deadly if you lose track of enemies or your ship.

#9 Ghosts N' Goblins (NES) I agree this should be on the list but it should be at around 7. I've just recorded a few new records for the PS2 Capcom Classics Collection arcade version and it's a very tough game. Level one, the Graveyard, is pretty easy compared to the levels after it. Level two has you dodging little blue demons and killing a bunch of tough guys that take over 10 hits to kill. What's insane is after you officially defeat the game on your second run, it sends you back to the start of the game AGAIN! and it's even harder than the second time through.

#8 Super Zaxxon (Arcade) I only played three times when I was a kid and didn't last more than 10-20 each time. I stopped playing it out of frustration.

#7 Ikaruga I've never played and would like some input on. Sounds insane with the black and white polarity system mixed in.

#6 The Adventures of Bayou Billy (NES) Is one hard f#&*in game. It's an old Konami game that had you fighting kinda Double Dragon style in the swamps with some driving & shooting thrown in. The enemies took way too much damage and could easily cut your health down to nothing in seconds. The driving levels are memorization based pretty much and require practice before even attempting. The last few bosses I remember being cheap as well in an already incredibly hard game.

#5 F-Zero GX I've never played and would like to try unless it's anything like Episode one racer.

#4 Donkey Kong (Arcade) This game is great in the arcade, fun and tough. Billy Mitchell said the average DK game doesn't even last a minute and if you've ever played it, you know how tough it can be. Hell, this game is the main focus of the movie The King of Kong:Fistful of Quarters. Getting a World Record in this game really could make you famous.

#3 Sinistar is evil. It punishes even the best game player then taunts them after they're dead. Hearing a loud "RUN, RUN!" after hearing nothing for so long can rattle nerves due to the fact that there's a lack of music or sound effects. I used to play this at the local bowling alley and they had it blasting so everytime the demo started, the game would yell really loud and scare some people. I like playing it for PS2 Midway Arcade Treasures. Simple, tough and fun. Great game.

#2  Super Ghouls N' Ghosts for SNES, wow. I wouldn't have thought this game would grab number two. I'll agree the game gets extremely difficult in the later levels but the first few levels can be used to score huge points and many extra lives to help you out. This game cranks it up a notch in the third level when it puts you in a stage filled with lava pits and platforms that spring out of the lava for a few seconds then descend to screw you over. Ok. I see why it's here now after playing it for a while heh.

#1 Battletoads (NES) Pretty tough game if you haven't memorized the speeder levels or enemy placement. Fun though. Don't think I would've put it at #1 on the list but hey, it's just another top 10 list right?

So what do you think about this top ten most difficult games of all-time list and how does yours compare. I'd love to read your top 3-5 most difficult games of all-time. My top ten will have to wait awhile =)

No Zanac? And while F-Zero GX is hard as hell, I dunno if it's THAT hard. Maybe.

Zanac is pretty tough and very hard on the fingers but I guess it didn't place. I haven't played F-Zero GX yet but now plan on picking it up. I thought Pac-Man or Ms.Pac-Man would have placed but it's a no show as well. I know it's not well known but I think Rampart is a hard game to get a high score in without using a continue.

I don't consider myself a great gamer, so they need to take Battletoads right off that list - cuz I beat that shit! ;D

Battletoads is hard but I'm not sure if it's really THAT hard that it places first. Damn computer says I just reportd abuse. Time to check my computer for a virus and sorry to the editors if I accidentally reported abuse because there certainly is none here lol.

This is a weird because hardness (especially in older games) come in two forms. There are games that are just hard, and then there are games that are hard because they are broken. If you include games that are broken E.T. is definitely up there. Just getting out a pit is a huge trial.

Super Xaxxon took many, many quarters from me. I always wanted to play that game again.

James brings up a good point. We (Gamers, TG Staff) discussed that very topic when making the list. Games like Total Recall and Cheetahman II for NES that should've been given more time to work out the bugs were left off the list because they're broken.

@Eric - wait, are you a part of Twin Galaxies? Did you help create that list?

@Demian Linn - I'm a Twin Galaxies World Record holder in over 30 games (with around 20 pending) and consider myself a part of the TG community but I'm not a staffer. I helped by discussing guidelines with TG staffers and other TG World Record holders in the forums. We then made our own lists of top 10 hardest games of All-Time and submitted them to a TG writer/ref or posted them in the forums for all to see.

@Eric - Whoa, what records do you hold?

@Lance - I hold quite a few for NES including the fastest completions for River City Ransom, Jackal, Rush 'N Attack, Trojan, Defender of the Crown and High Score World Records on Jackal, Kid Niki, Silkworm, Iron Tank just to name a few. I'm also one of people who have maxed the points out in Contra. I hold the fastest completions of Mortal Kombat 2 & 3 for Genesis as well as 2 high scores in Street Fighter 2 : Champion Edition. For SNES I hold records for fastest K.O. in Riddick Bowe Boxing and a few high scores in Street Fighter 2 : Hyoer Fighting (Turbo edition). Justing Wong (one of the best Fighting Game players in the World) took my only WR for X-Box 360 which was highest score in Street Fighter 4.
