A Bitmob Update

Yeah, we know it's a small hassle to post stories on Bitmob -- the MyBlog editor takes way too long to load. You want to know why? It's because you've actually helped us outgrow it. The software wasn't designed to handle this volume of content from our community, with all the stored data (like thousands and thousands of tags) that it's trying to access and load.

So we suppose that's a bit of silver lining -- better that we're maxing out our website rather than barely waking it up each morning. But what about you guys who are trying to post stories to the Mobfeed? Well, good news is on the way.

Instead of spending our limited resources working on fixing a system that really doesn't want to be fixed (believe us, we tried), we're creating a new one from scratch (hence, our need for some Ruby on Rails help). While this means it's going to take us a few weeks to get caught up to a basic site again, that new basic site should be a lot better than the one you're using now.

Even better, our new infrastructure will allow us to build super secret future-awesome Bitmob much, much faster than we could have otherwise.

So we ask that you be patient with us -- remember, we're just a few guys volunteeering our own time and money for this project. Go ahead and take a bathroom break or play a quick round of Peggle while you wait for our current blog editor to load; we're working on big changes and hope to bring them to you soon.

Thank you.

P.S. One quick housekeeping note: We've made it pretty clear that users are not to use Bitmob as a promotional tool, whether it's to advertise for a game, website, podcast...whatever.

If your post is legitimate standalone content that requires a link to somewhere else (for example, a "this was also published at blahblahblah.com" type of note), we just ask that you to put that at the very end of your article. While we are happy to let you give credit where credit is due, we hope you understand that we have to make sure Bitmob is home to great, original stories...not opportunities to promote non-Bitmob stuff.

Peggle is now on the PS3 in case you don't want to play on your 360, PC or DSI.

Fantastic. I found it amusing that after clicking the blog button, I could literally get up, walk to the fridge, grab a Mt. Dew can, snag my smokes, light one up, walk out to the patio, smoke half of it, snuff it out for later use, walk back to the bedroom, sit down, take a sip of Mt. Dew and it would have just 25 short seconds until it was ready by that point. Maybe that was exaggerated a bit, but it's fantastic news to see change incoming. =D

Woo. Hooray new blogger! Also thanks for mentioning the advertisement thing. Particularly I'd like to see some of the more enthusiastic members remember that other people's comments section for their posts isn't fair game to spam with suggestions to go to your website.

Awesome! I am so glad to see Bitmob grow. This place really does have some awesome community members and the staff rocks! Don't worry about the time it takes to get this stuff up. Real Bitmob fans will be here for a looonng time. PS- Please don't get too pissed if I mainly lurk for the moment. I am going back to school and have a baby on the way, so finding time to write about all the games I am playing is scarce... unless I want to use my game time to write. Which I don't. :) See you guys on Xbox Live or PSN!

@Shoe: Thanks for the update. I second everyone's joy at the news of Bitmob's growth. Can you believe we're only a few short months away from the one year aniversary of the start of Bitmob?!:o

Fantastic! Playing with everyone on MW2 last night let me experience the diversity of Bitmob's fans much more than the reading of comments. Can't wait to see it grow more. Quick question: in past articles I've commented with links to sites that are (to me) relevant to the discussion. This doesn't count as advertising since I'm not affiliated with the sites, right?

You missed the perfect opportunity to tell us to "make a sandwich," while we wait.

That should be fine, Tom.

@Tom: Yes, if it's relevant to the article, the definitely keep the link. It's more for people who are trying to promote, rather than reference, something.

Thanks for the update! Any thoughts on providing support for Windows Live Writer? It makes blogging super simple.
