Bitmob Big 10

I love seeing the variety of articles that end up in the Bitmob Big 10, the list of the most-read articles from the previous month. April was no exception -- our community writers produced high-quality interviews, intelligent analysis, tongue-in-cheek satire, Claptraps made out of paper, and more. Plus, two authors on this list got their first-ever posts into the Big 10. Way to go, everyone!

Here are the most-read community stories from April 2011:

10. The games I play are not made for women by Rachel Jagielski

9. The 3D bubble is ready to burst by Jason Lomberg

8. Nerd art: Video-game collages by Meghan Stratman

7. Interview: BioWare's David Gaider on writing for Dragon Age 2 by Louis Garcia

6. Interview: Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo on PAX, Child's Play, and building an empire by Toby Davis

Hit the jump for the rest of April's list.

5. Sequels should be more like Portal 2 by Josh Derocher

4. An honest conversation with BioWare by Rick Knight

3. The five worst excuses for leaving out a female character option by Jeffrey Sandlin

2. How a PC gamer learned to love the PlayStation 3 by Michael Kenyon

1. First marriage ends thanks to the 3DS' StreetPass by Paul Gale

Do you want to be on next month's list? Here are some tips:

Catchy headlines: A great one goes a long way -- you'd be amazed at how much this matters. If it doesn't draw people's attention, it doesn't matter how good your article is. You can easily double or triple your hits with a catchy and interesting headline.

Format your articles: Short, concise paragraphs and pictures go a long way. Check out our writing tips column, too.

Encourage comments: Ask your readers to share their opinions.

Promote your work: Share your links via Twitter, Facebook, message boards, N4G, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.

Sweet! Finally made the list! :)

When I saw my name, I figured it was the 3D article (it's a hot topic, and never fails to excite my readers in ECN).

I'd say you're a virtual lock with "Detective work reveals PSN servers up to date." That piece is hot!

yessss! I was pretty confident the 'excuses' article was popular enough to make it but i'm suprised it ended up so high on the list. Thanks everyone who spread that thing around for me and commented. It would have gotten nowhere if people didn't take it seriously enough to spread it when it was young.
