Bitmob Giveaway (for Our Writers): Civ 5, Downloadable Codes, and More

You guys know all about Bitmob already, right? This whole "Community Meets the Press" thing where you write stories, people read them, and you can even make a bit of cash through your own ads here? How some guys have gotten their Bitmob goods published in GamePro or even picked up industry freelance work because someone noticed their work? (More on that in a future update.)

Or are you here because we're oh-so incredibly generous and love giving away free stuff?

Today, we'd like to mix those two worlds and offer up some free games to our valued contributors: our community writers.

Giveaway #1: downloadable codes

We have some downloadable codes for a few titles that the Bitmob staff just doesn't have the bandwidth to cover. So why not turn to you guys for help? Just let us know in the comments if you're interested in playing and writing about:

You can pick more than one game or downloadable pack, and the only other rule is you must have posted two or more legitimate stories on Bitmob in the past. Reason: We want to hand these out to our most loyal and regular users.

We'll update this post on Friday, Oct. 1 with the winners. If we pick you, we'll send you the code(s) via the email you registered with on Bitmob.com, and we'll honor-system trust that you'll write about the game on Bitmob in some capacity (review, editorial...whatever). As always, you must be using your real, full first and last names on this site, or we'll pretend you don't exist.

UPDATE: With the help of a random-number generator, here are our winners (though I would've loved to have given these to Michael Rousseau for his "aww" response or Dennis Scimeca for his hilarious comment):

Interesting enough, no one wanted to cover the Supreme Commander 2 DLC! Don't forget about our PC-writing contest, below!

Giveaway #2: PC gaming and Civilization 5

We also got an extra boxed copy of Civilization 5 that is dying for a new home. Maybe you want it...or know someone that does? It doesn't matter. We need to give it (plus a random game T-shirt) to someone, so here's what you can do to nab these:

Just write about any PC game or PC games in general (it doesn't have to be Civ 5) on Bitmob over the next week. That's it. Whoever writes the most popular article wins.

Make sure you check "PC" in the Article Editor's "Systems" so we can find your stories! Next weekend, we'll search through all the "PC"-marked articles in the Mobfeed (here) for the one with the most comments and boosts (vote ups) combined. Then we'll contact that author to see where we should mail this Civ 5 copy to. Feel free to use Twitter or whatever to get your friends to help you win.

We'll update this post with the results -- and assuming that piece was pretty good (and not just flame-baity, which would disqualify it from winning), we'll probably have to promote that story to the front page as well.

UPDATE:  Congrats to Devon N. Cambell, whose Minecraft: It's the Journey, Not the Destination piece won him a copy of Civ 5. Alex Martin's Death Needn't Be Taxing was right there, too, but I had to make a judge's call since he mostly wrote about console products (even though he included Dead Space, which is a PC title...). Another rule I just threw in: I didn't count any stories that we put up on the front page. I'm really sorry, and I'm sure this will piss someone off -- I didn't think this part through. But it obviously wouldn't be fair with our hand-selection process, if we picked a post for the front page, because of course that one will get more comments and boosts. So I stuck to only stories that are still in the Mobfeed. Sorry!

I'll gladly do Comic Jumper or Gaia Seed.

I'd love to check out Comic Jumper. It'd be pretty interesting to check out because I hear the action is pretty repetitive, but the designs and environments are really interesting. Plus I love Twisted Pixel's sense of humor.

I'm interested in Gaia Seed.

I'd love to check out Gaia Speed (and Comic Jumper, but I don't have a 360, so that one's out of the question).

I wonder if we'll get a flurry of PC articles over the next week.

Very cool! I'd be able to do Gaia Seed.

Dan: I just posted a PC article right before this went up, can it still count for the Civ 5 contest?

I would love either Twisted Pixel's Comic Jumper or Claptrap's New Robot Revolution! I've played, and loved, The Maw and 'Splosion Man and cannot wait for their new game!

Borderlands is great too. I had 100 percent on the achievements and really enjoy the game. However, I haven't had the money to purchase Microsoft space bucks for the new DLC, so that would work perfectly :)

Chris: It should be fine, because I'd be dating stories back to today, but I wouldn't know what time they were posted today, so you're all good!

I would like to try Comic Jumper. I dig Twisted Pixel and own all of their previous releases on the 360. 'Splosion Man and The Maw were a lot of fun.

Jeez, why don't I start writing?  I really want Comic Jumper!

I'd be happy to do comic jumper.

I'm into Twisted Pixel, and would love to write about Comic Jumper.

Thanks for doing this. I know you guys do a lot of mass-code giveaways and stuff to draw people to the site, and sometimes, some of us feel like you're forgetting about us. Nice to have something a little more exclusive. Makes me feel special and tingly.

I would love to do Comic Jumper. I even have exactly two articles like Jennifer Aniston's 15 pieces of flair.

I'd do comic jumper, Gaia seed, or the borderlands expansion. (i'd probably be doing the borderlands expansion solo with a high level siren on the second playthrough. Though I may be able to bully some friends or bitmob co horts into doing co op with me.)

I would love to have a look at Civ 5 but my computer's a hunk of crap. So best to give that to someone who can actually run the thing.

I would like to write about Gaia Seed.

I could use more scrolling shooters in my life.

I'd be happy to write about Gaia Seed. I've been playing a good few PSX games lately, and I'd like to cover a game that I haven't had the opportunity to experience before.

I would love to write about Borderlands: Claptrap's New Robot Revolution. I'm a big fan of the series, and I'd like to do something creative for a Bitmob piece, like maybe the "Evolution of a Revolution" and track the abuse of Claptraps in the past. Something fun

For those worried about whether your PC can run Civilization 5, I've updated the article with system requirements taken from the Civ-5 Steam page.

I had to Youtube Gaia Seed and Comic Jumper because I had no idea what the hell they were. They both look pretty fun, so I'll write about one of them if you want.

bitmob I'd like to do the borderlands DLC as well as comic jumper, whichever but I'd prefer borderlands. I'd love to do this kind of thing on a serious level, please give me a shot.

No problem, Shoe. I've already got a Steam copy of Civ 5. I thought that article might be up there and I was going to suggest you give it to a runner-up anyway.
