You guys know all about Bitmob already, right? This whole "Community Meets the Press" thing where you write stories, people read them, and you can even make a bit of cash through your own ads here? How some guys have gotten their Bitmob goods published in GamePro or even picked up industry freelance work because someone noticed their work? (More on that in a future update.)
Or are you here because we're oh-so incredibly generous and love giving away free stuff?
Today, we'd like to mix those two worlds and offer up some free games to our valued contributors: our community writers.
Giveaway #1: downloadable codes
We have some downloadable codes for a few titles that the Bitmob staff just doesn't have the bandwidth to cover. So why not turn to you guys for help? Just let us know in the comments if you're interested in playing and writing about:
- Comic Jumper (Xbox Live Arcade)
- Borderlands: Claptrap's New Robot Revolution (Xbox 360 expansion pack for Borderlands)
- Supreme Commander 2: Infinite War Battle Pack (Steam expansion pack for Supreme Commander 2)
- Gaia Seed (PlayStation Network)
You can pick more than one game or downloadable pack, and the only other rule is you must have posted two or more legitimate stories on Bitmob in the past. Reason: We want to hand these out to our most loyal and regular users.
We'll update this post on Friday, Oct. 1 with the winners. If we pick you, we'll send you the code(s) via the email you registered with on Bitmob.com, and we'll honor-system trust that you'll write about the game on Bitmob in some capacity (review, editorial...whatever). As always, you must be using your real, full first and last names on this site, or we'll pretend you don't exist.
UPDATE: With the help of a random-number generator, here are our winners (though I would've loved to have given these to Michael Rousseau for his "aww" response or Dennis Scimeca for his hilarious comment):
- Jeffrey Sandlin (Comic Jumper)
- Joshua Duke (Claptrap -- this one worked out, as Joshua has some funny article ideas here)
- Richard Moss (Gaia Seed)
Interesting enough, no one wanted to cover the Supreme Commander 2 DLC! Don't forget about our PC-writing contest, below!
Giveaway #2: PC gaming and Civilization 5
We also got an extra boxed copy of Civilization 5 that is dying for a new home. Maybe you want it...or know someone that does? It doesn't matter. We need to give it (plus a random game T-shirt) to someone, so here's what you can do to nab these:
Just write about any PC game or PC games in general (it doesn't have to be Civ 5) on Bitmob over the next week. That's it. Whoever writes the most popular article wins.
Make sure you check "PC" in the Article Editor's "Systems" so we can find your stories! Next weekend, we'll search through all the "PC"-marked articles in the Mobfeed (here) for the one with the most comments and boosts (vote ups) combined. Then we'll contact that author to see where we should mail this Civ 5 copy to. Feel free to use Twitter or whatever to get your friends to help you win.
We'll update this post with the results -- and assuming that piece was pretty good (and not just flame-baity, which would disqualify it from winning), we'll probably have to promote that story to the front page as well.
UPDATE: Congrats to Devon N. Cambell, whose Minecraft: It's the Journey, Not the Destination piece won him a copy of Civ 5. Alex Martin's Death Needn't Be Taxing was right there, too, but I had to make a judge's call since he mostly wrote about console products (even though he included Dead Space, which is a PC title...). Another rule I just threw in: I didn't count any stories that we put up on the front page. I'm really sorry, and I'm sure this will piss someone off -- I didn't think this part through. But it obviously wouldn't be fair with our hand-selection process, if we picked a post for the front page, because of course that one will get more comments and boosts. So I stuck to only stories that are still in the Mobfeed. Sorry!
