October is just around the coroner and for horror fans its time for the season of fear. Get ready to indulge yourself in the best horror films, read classical tales of terror, attend a horror party or cross-dress for a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

But why should Hollywood and literature be the only way one can be entertained during the season of fear?  It’s 2011 and video games have made their contribution to not just the horror genre but also pop culture. It should only be fair to acknowledge video games contribution to the horror genre.

Besides we can all agree that the themes and elements of Resident Evil are more relevant to the issues of today than Frankenstein.

During the month of October I will be writing a column, The Best of Gaming Horror, which will look at horror themed games and examine its significance or contribution to modern horror.

So when October comes around get ready for some terror and nostalgia as I explore some of the greatest works of video game horror. Oh and yes I will talk about Resident Evil.

I'd say that Resident Evil and Frankenstein both share their most important theme: unchecked scientific progress getting out of the control of its creator. The T-Virus is Umbrella's monster, much like the creature is Frankenstein's monster. On another note, I can't wait to read your series on horror. It's a genre near and dear to my heart and it needs to be talked about more when it comes to games.

Although I agree with Matt that there are some similarties in the general themes of Resident Evil, I would say that once Umbrella continue with their evil plans even after wiping out large parts of human population and you would assume the source of any of their own funding the similarties end.

Either way this should be an interesting read. Although in truth I'm a massive wuss. I never played the original resi for very long for the first zombie you meet scared the bejusus out of me. You know the one- hes munching on a man and the screen turns to a first person view as turns to look at you. Or look at me... he was looking at me! He'd seen me!

Yeah I continue to be a wuss.
