(Discussion Topic) Digital Reading / Printing

Now I know most people have over looked this topic all ready. So I am fine with that because the information I seek is from everyone that reads or remotely uses a computer. With that being said let me move on and try to get you to understand what is in my head which is the hard part.

Digital Media is making it bad for magazines to have exclusives any more. With the power of the web most of the news we read is all ready over the net before anything else. So far the only person I think I heard was going to try something different was the new EGM coming out.

Really would you buy a subscription based magazine if it was in PDF file? Now if there was an option to print it would you? For me both these questions would be yes. However before they do something like this I would get with a paper & ink company to give me discounts on the products for fans so they can save money.

So if I saved money on ink & paper yes I would print it from home to read. Which yes uses more trees, but also you can print what ever portion you want.

If some companies went this route they would still have the edge on others due to they would need a subscription to get the material. Also this would keep them getting more exclusives that are not leaked weeks before the magazines release.

Then again if you have enough money maybe it can be imported to your kindle as well.

Do you think this would be a good idea or what is your thoughts on digital reading like this compared to the standard magazine?

Call me old-fashioned but I prefer reading words on paper, not a screen. So I would not mind a PDF format mag that I could print out. But then, why would I not just print out some of the great articles on Bitmob?

If I were Steve Harris' financial advisor I would be telling him to do exactly what you suggested Toby. Why bother taking the chance of printing a magazine and sending it all over the country when one could just send a pdf file? That is really good business sense.

But to go back to my first point. Why would I pay for what I get for free at Bitmob?

Oh, and I am about half way done your "12 Days" piece, but is it okay if I had to drop the odd word, such as "was"? Is that cool?

hi toby,

I hear where what you're saying and going digital would make absolute sense re: business and the environment. I think if a publisher can get enough advertisement, they'll most likely go down the road of print. Female fashion will never go digital simply because a lot of the audience (mainly female) want to see pictures of the outfits and celebs etc. It sounds crazy, but for some, its easier to turn a page then it is to find a website or weblink.

As for gaming I think the problem is as Lance had stated, there are so many free gaming journal sites why would you pay? Good topic by the way:D I think many of us need to consider how we digest our information from magazines in regards to the environment, cost, information, design, layout, imagery etc
