I have a feeling I'm going to overate this game. I don’t really enjoy shooters, they’re very same-ish; aim, fire, die; personally first-person shooters don’t nab my attention, I like seeing the character, so 3rd person (Mass Effect FTW) feels more natural. But just when I get “shootered” out a fucking amazing game comes out, from HALO, to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and now Crysis 2. What was once dull and repetitive is now new again.

But why, I asked myself. Honestly. Tech. HALO and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare looked amazing for their time, but they backed it up with fantastic game play. And game play is the key if not Kill zone 3 (which looks amazing) wouldn’t have been such a massive disappointment. You play Crysis 2 as a soldier in a nano-suite which allows for to do super human feats; shields, cloaking, speed; your standard cool shit to keep it short. Your character Alcatraz is just a grunt, at the same time you feel empowered by the suit. When you fire a weapon, sneak around or drop 25 feet and stomp on the ground you are in the thick of the shit. And that’s what makes this game standout out, when I play Call of Duty in just a regular guy with a gun, no powers here, while in HALO I am are the savior of all. In Crysis 2, you’re just a bad-motherfucker that’s going to fuck everybody up, either with a straight on attack or a stealthy approached, again that suit, really cool stuff. And in terms of pacing this game’s real triumph, it builds to large scale action and has a very solid ebb and flow.

Now what’s really bananas is that the story… no, the motivation for the action, makes some logic, the overall narrative is on the same level (or better) than most Michael Bay movies… no, fuck that, it’s better. But the presentation of the action the graphical fidelity of this games’ beyond anything I’ve ever seen. BTW Xbox 360 or PS3, doesn’t really matter, still the best looking game on either. If you’re a douche-bag-troll you’ll point out some mild technical issues, but there is no denying that no game looks as good as this, New York looks like the massive city we know it is, the environmental effect are awesome and when the shit hits the fan… DAMN, lets just say there’s no lacking on blockbuster moments here. Like I said, I know I’m over rating this, but the last shooter I played, Kill zone 3, was a real letdown, the last Call of Duty was too much for it’s own good and even HALO: Reach while the best shooter I played in 2010 was very par for the course. So, for anyone worried about shooters not doing anything inventive… Crysis averted. 9/10
