Farewell, My Dear Beta.

As much as I regret saying, the Gears of War 3 Beta is over, gone, kaput;b however you want to put it, it is no more. We’ve all been playing for longer than we care to admit, and it’s fair to say that the wait between now and the 20th of September is going to be a long one. And so I call upon thee to share with the rest of us, your greatest, worst, funniest experience, or whatever else happened to you during the short time we had our hands on the beta. It’s a given that through the time you have played, that you will have amassed a few lot of these, so feel free to share as many as you like. With that, I’ll start things off.

The Quinn, possibly the most coveted ribbon achievable. I somehow managed to gain this ribbon, but not through skill; but pure luck.

Thrashball. After mowing down each and every enemy with the help of my team, I ran to the elevated platform which housed the mortar. It was occupied by the enemy straggler, readying himself to grab the mortar, and destroy my clustered team. Realising that I had not yet been noticed, I relished the opportunity, and with Retro Lancer in hand, I brandished my blade and impaled the Locust scum.

Taking the weapon my opponent had failed to get, I positioned myself at the wall, fully aware the enemy team were yet to spawn. Counting to three, I began to hold the trigger, contemplating at which distance to fire the missiles. Settling with the maximum distance, I released the trigger, conveniently just as the enemy team had spawned. The missiles flew, and the Locust ran, I was still unsure of my success… until the explosion. Death rained from above. Shattering the bodies of the enemy into a puddle of blood and guts. Then the ribbon inserted itself from the side of the screen, shimmering as it entered. ‘The Quinn’ was repeated by an angelic choir in my mind. I was too proud. With a smug little smile, I continued my game.

This comes close to one of my greatest gaming achievements ever, and words cannot express my unending joy at that moment. And with that, I say goodbye, to one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a long time. September can’t come soon enough. I send my sincerest thanks to Epic, for making this so enjoyable, and taking in all of our feedback to make this game the best it can be. I hope that you all enjoyed it as much as I.

So, how do your stories compare to my, somewhat over exaggerated epic?  Be sure to share them in the comments below, so we can send off the beta with our fondest memories.

Plus, my keyboard's slightly broken, so please ignore the randoms 'b's: "kaput;b" and "bfirst"

I, too, am eagerly awaiting the release of Sawed-Off Shotguns of War 3.

My favourite (not necessarily my best) moment was in a Capture the Leader match. I got in with a buddy code in the last week and mostly played Team Deathmatch. but I decided I needed to try out all the modes before the beta ended.

Trenches: Anyways, in my very first round, the game chose me as the Locust Queen. "Damn it all to hell" pretty much sums up my response to this. But I was fully aware of the game mechanics and I knew what would be needed to win... unfortunately, It didn't take long for me to realize that I was the best player on our team (I have my moments, but I'm by no means "great").

Since the COG's were sort of bunkering down in their spawn, I decided we should make a push. I stayed behind a little bit but was getting the majority of the downs. I was running low on ammo when the COG's decided THEY would start making a push. I whipped out my gnasher at started to go to work. Lots of havok that would take too long to go into detail, but I got a few kills PLUS I downed the enemy leader. I picked him up, killed a guy with my pistol (COG leader as my human shield) and that round was over.

We lost the match, though... Our leaders in the following rounds gift-wrapped themselves to the COGs.

Epic story! Unlucky about your team though, I got that all the time too :(
