Bitmob contributor Aaron Thomas and Jay Frechette from Area 5 join Shoe and Demian this week to talk about people that are all fired up about game delays. Then we let our softer side show and discuss the games that make us emotional. But wait, there's more! We’re giving away ten copies of Zack Parson’s “Your Next-Door Neighboor is a Dragon” so listen close to find out how you can become a big winner (of the book, that is).

Bitmob.com - Mobcast #14: On this week's Mobcast Dan Hsu, Demian Linn, Aaron Thomas, and Jay Frechette discuss the recent slew of game delays, games that make them emotional, guilty-pleasure games, their ability to beat old-school games, and question their need for night-vision goggles. Email the crew at letters@Bitmob.com.

Nice podcast this week guys. I'd like to add my guilty pleasure game, and that is any Dynasty Warriors game.

My guilty pleasure game is WoW. I've quit it at least 8 times but somehow manage to get sucked back in.

No edit button :/ I think the scrabble documentary you mentioned is called "Word Wars"

That Scrabble doc was pretty enjoyable. I've also recommend a book about tournament Scrabble players called "Word Freak" by Stefan Fatsis. http://www.amazon.com/Word-Freak-Heartbreak-Competitive-ScrabblePlayers/dp/0142002267

I second that no edit button :/ I meant to say "I" instead of "I've"

@Matias well since it is coming state side later this yeah maybe he will pick it up and play it. Then again he may pick it up for two reasons. 1 - Looting 2 - Scare factor

I've been eyeing this book for a couple of weeks and love the mobcast. I'd love to hear Anthony Gallegos on the show.

My casual game guilty pleasure would have to be Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. I've wasted way too much time with that game, and I was trying to get high scores so seriously at one point that I started using a Wacom Tablet and pen to play more accurately.

Re: "prestige" edition - special edition extras are ludicrous to say the least (art books, metal cases, Master Chief helmet, etc...). If you have the disposable income then that's your prerogative to spend it on a S.E. but I'd rather have a $50 digital download than a $60 retail release or $150 special edition with a bunch of extra shit I end up throwing out after a month... Re: Shu - you still have a DVD "collection"? Time to get on the Netflix train my man... IMO the content should be revered more than the packaging it comes in.

I love the 4 guys, 5 topics, except it makes the topics much more important. If a lame or poorly thought out topic is presented, its harder to just quickly move on.

Great episode! Although I must admit my quota of roundhouse kicks to my jaw have been significantly low from lack of Seanbaby. Is there any chance he'll be a guest soon?

I love the new format: 4 guys, 4 topics + 1 bonus community topic. But what's with the lack of bumper music? Doesn't that break some sort of regulation?

Great episode so far. Books sounds really interesting.

Interpol? Really? That game was terrible. The images were so low-res that trying to find most things eventually became a pixel hunt. I regret spending money on it.

Do not think I have a guilty pleasure game. Would enjoy a book though.

hey guys, congrats on another entertaining & informative edition of the mobcast. my guilty pleasure in gaming is Super Rub-A-Dub on the ps3 (...please don't judge me) cheers from Australia!

Heyyyyy heard something about possible free toilet reading? Always a plus. My guilty pleasure would have to be pokemon. I consider it casual enough, and being 21 I can get a lot of flak for it being in my DS. But i do not care! It will always be fun for me:)

good to know that im not the only one that enjoyed the beginning of zelda: a link to the past. that was a magical moment in gaming, it really showed what could be expected in the 16bit era. i still think it's the most impressive start to any zelda game so far. /crosses fingers to win a book

The audio for me is still a bit low but but the levels are even so I can jack it pretty high and not freak out when someone other than the soft spoken Hsu speaks. Also, I have never felt more dread/fear/confusion than I did during Alien vs Predator 2 for the PC. It was the first time a game really scared me and playing as a marine made me felt truly helpless and desperate.

The audio seems to be getting better with each episode. At least the whole "3D Sound" is gone. It was weird to have voices only coming out of one ear. It was standing in the middle of a conversation. ;D

Great show Aaron and co. I've certainly had a lot of moments with games, and hell, isn't good entertainment supposed to evoke feelings? For sure, at least for me!

The most recent game to invoke a strong emotion in me was Valkyria Chronicles.

One of my guilty pleasures is the hideous blob known as Gundam Seed: Never Ending Tomorrow. Fan service in the shape of a crappy game, and I've played through it multiple times. It has also evoked strong reactions from me, though many of them containing creative profanity I won't repeat here.

That My Neighbor is a Dragon book sounds hilarious. They talked about it on the geekbox as well. Pretty disturbing stuff in there though. I don't know if this is a casual game but whenever I'm bored I play GemCraft on Kongregate. That game can get pretty ridiculous though. I don't think its a type of tower defense that my wife could enjoy.

GREAT show! the discussion about games that got an emotional response from you was really fun to listen to. i'm surprised noone mentioned the MGS series. that series had so many moments that got an emotional response from me.

Listened to the first podcast and it's a bit late but half the reason I listen to your podcast is because you guys are gamers who have the experience and the professional acumen to provide insightful discussions but more importantly what you offer that no other podcasts can offer is a passion that I only understand because I would watch 1up shows, so I guess Im saying that if I didn't have this podcast I wouldn't have any podcast.

Great Podcast guys! Thinking about games that produce an emotional response, I remember laughing with my brother at all the jokes in Monkey Island 1 & 2. Humour in games is hardly ever done well, but can work brilliantly if done right. Speaking of which, the little Doughnut song that plays in Splosion Man when you pick up a fat scientist made me laugh out loud when I first came across it.

I've heard about this book, but it'd be really cool to receive a copy to read. But about the podcast, 4 guys 5 topics is good, but I liked the original 5 guys 5 topics better. Maybe 5 guys 6 topics?

I would like to win the book. For the podcast, I like the different structure, but more flow would be appreciated. Instead of every time saying "let's move on", maybe flow into the next topic a little smoother. More of a conversation than a formal discussion.

I'm agree completely that delays are a good thing for the pocket book. The more big titles are spread out over the year, the better. I get annoyed with the hype-trains though. I have heard entirely too much about Scribblenauts. I just want the game already.

Just to follow up on the night vision goggles discussion. The military issue NVG's can see quite a bit further than 50 feet. Try between 200 and 350 meters. In fact it's one of the biggest advantages NATO forces have over the insurgency - the ability to conduct operations at night. Here's a link for more info: http://www.opticsplanet.net/atn-high-performance-night-vision-goggle-pvs7.html

Great show, really enjoyed the bit about the interactions between Shoe and Jay when he was an intern. And I'm exactly like Shoe in terms of Collectors/Limited Editions - even when I know they suck I still can't help but buy them. Any game that I want, if the CE/LE comes with an artbook, I will automatically buy the CE/LE of. Even if it's only 10 pages. Being a self-aware consumer whore rather sucks. =/ Wouldn't mind the book either. ;D

This week's podcast made me thankful that my girlfriend is not interested in Interpol (sorry, Shoe). She's playing Gun right now; I feel so lucky. You know, except for when she's playing and I want to play something. Also, as far as emotional responses in games go, I've gotta throw in the "Perfect Day" section from Fable 2. That book sounds incredible.

[my stupid little rant :P] ugh. ok, i dont mean to start anything, and i know this was only mentioned briefly; but i really wish people would stop downing furies. in reality they aren't all that bad. the media however has made them look like sex crazed retards (does the name Michel Jackson come to mind?). most furies are the same as anime fans, they are just fans of anthromorphic/sentient animal characters instead. fur suits are no different then cos playing outfits. their is no denying that their are a few odd balls, but its the same for every subculture. most people just dwell those people (proly cuz they R weired), and label all furies as that. another thing is that furies are not sex crazed, the anime community has far more sex related content then the fury community. i assure you that furry enjoy sex at a normal level as everyone else. most people just think this i guess because its so weird. also, again, i don't want start any thing, and im not pointing fingers; i just wish people would stop hating on furies, and calling them wierd, or freaks, or labeling them as sex crazed. [my guilty pleasure games] peggle is my current guilty pleasure. i just recently stopped enjoying mafia wars as much as usually though. i still enjoy soduku, but thats more or less a non-casual game. [games i couldn't beat] donkeykong64 (im still right at the end of the game 2 :P), and legend of zelda orcarina of time (which i still kick my self over). [special editions] lol, no thanx... [emotion evoking games] mass effect (i was really attached the characters), and bioshock (i was tense as well). [thinning of the heard] i think its good for the wallet.
