Musicians of the Mob -- Contest Results

We got some great responses for the songwriting challenge. So here's the playlist:

  1. Ed Tremblay gets us going with one of his retro-styled podcast intros. You may know him from something called Pixel Revolt, or the outro to the Mobcast. This one's for Bullet Heaven and it really evokes the genre the show is devoted to.
  2. Alex Cronk-Young gives us a track by his brother, Aaron Young. Aaron and his band, the Deep Sea Creatures, rock to a dance called the Donkey Kong.
  3. Lance Darnell's track creeps me out with its heavy reverb and inexplicable ostriches. But maybe that's just because I've been playing too much Alan Wake.
  4. Rapstar Mike Minotti drops some phat beats and spits some mad rhymes (am I saying that right?) about all manner of games. I hope he doesn't leave Bitmob for the coke and loose women a hip hop career brings.
  5. Matt Giguere has been chopping and screwing on his Korg DS-10. I think he may have hidden satanic messages in his track.
  6. Frank Anderson's piece is an instrumental homage to Shadow of the Colossus. It sounds like it could be the midi soundtrack to a classic JRPG.
  7. I offer a little acoustic ballad about my break-up with Halo. I'm sick of it after nine years, and Reach isn't fresh enough for me.
  8. Cameron Pershall's track is my personal favorite -- I'm a sucker for noise guitar. Approach has a driving rhythm and intense swells that would make it perfect for an epic shmup session.

Unfortunately, staff and people named Alex can't win this contest. Racing for the prize though: Frank, Matt, Cameron, and Ed. All of those names went into a hat, and the name that came out was Frank's. So congratulations Frank on your mystery prize!

A big thank you to everyone who entered. This was outside the usual realm of community prompts and you really came through.

Cameron's song is awesome!!!

This was a really good idea that could not have been done in any other format than the internet.

And ostriches are the unofficial, or is that official?, mascot of Bitmob!!!

Oh, wow! It was a pleasure just taking part in this. I never expected to win. Go randomness... cause otherwise Cameron would have won for sure! Thanks! I hope we do more events like this sometime.

Not for the winning, but the creativity displayed here by everyone was great!

@Alex Hahaha! I approve the picture of the poor Halo player getting his ass kicked in your video.

Great submissions everyone. Congrats on winning, Frank!

My crappy headphones have crapped out. Am I missing much in the left channel of any of these? It's times like this when I realise that panning tracks far to either side isn't such a good idea.
