The Dreamcast’s 10-year anniversary just got a little more exciting. Redspotgames, a publisher that thankfully didn’t get the memo about the system’s demise, has just announced a new game for the Sega Dreamcast.

That’s right; Rush Rush Rally Racing will be hitting Amazon and eBay’s virtual store shelves this October for the low price of $22. I can’t believe I’m actually typing these words in 2009, but you can pre-order this Dreamcast game now via the publisher’s website.

Rush Rush Rally Racing is an old-school, 2D, top-down, arcade-racing game for up to four players. The trailer, which you can watch after the jump, boasts “No realistic backgrounds. No sponsored cars. Only fun, retro gameplay.” Who knows if RRRR will be any good or not, but the gameplay in the trailer does look pretty darn entertaining.

Â

Here’s a list of features direct from the developer (their words, not ours!) if you’re dying to know more about the game:

- Single-player grand prix mode with four difficulty levels

- Three multiplayer modes to enjoy with up to four players

- Five race cars to choose from

- 10 Grand Prix race tracks

- 9 additional multiplayer race tracks

- Awesome soundtrack by Black Device

- Autosave to VMU (any port, file uses just 2 blocks)

- Region-free

- Rumble pack support

- Compatible with original Dreamcast pads, arcade stick, and third-party controllers

- Supports PAL (50/60 Hz), NTSC, and VGA displays

- Configurable controls and many other options

- Animated cut scenes

- Plus even more unlockable content!

- New: Online high score!

Well...this was unexpected. Never though we'd see a new Dreamcast game, considering the system is pretty much dead and all...

This reminds me of RC Pro AM, though that game had an isometric view and not top-down. There's another NES racing game that this reminds me of, which actually did have a top-down view, but I can't remember its name. My brother and I used to rent it all the time. It had F1 style cars, I believe.

Carl: I don't remember the name of that game, but it was friggin' awesome. I rented it and played it until my thumbs were ready to fall off.

Hey Aaron, almost reminds me of Super Sprint. That was old school good times.

Super Sprint was/is awesome. I still play that one from time to time if I see it in an arcade.

Just think how many internet pirates owe it to the Dreamcast to actually buy a game for it. If they could capitalize on the unrequited guilt from all the rampant theft of the 90's this game could make millions.

Aaron, Carl: I do believe the game you fine gentlemen are trying to think of is Micro Machines ;) Had F1 cars, boats, TANKS?, the works.

Shouldn't this have come out today? I know I was ready to buy it on the spot when I saw the post due to my love of the Dreamcast. They could have capitalized on some serious nostalgia impulse buys.

The game actually looks like fun! Now we just need to get Sega to start reproducing the DC again!

Wow... really great to see a late release at such an accessible price. Every other game released for the DC since 2007 has been at least twice this much. Really excited.
