Just last week we wished The Sims a happy 10th birthday, and now our best wishes go out to 10-year-old Bejeweled. These Y2K games are growing up so fast.

PopCap Games prepares to celebrate Bejeweled's 10th birthday throughout 2010. PopCap claims to have sold over 50 million copies of Bejeweled (which was originally named Diamond Mine) and that the people have downloaded it over 350 million times. To mark the occasion, the company plans to host contests and competitions as well as release new installments of the franchise over the next 10 months. Anyone down to bake a jewel-shaped cake? Game Developers Conference coordinators rename GDC Austin as GDC Online. The Texas gathering of GDC takes take place between October 5 and October 8 and focuses on casual, social, and MMO games. Of course, this move doesn't suggest that Austin, Texas is now Online, Texas -- don't be ridiculous. [GamePro]

David Gibbs of finance site Seeking Alpha warns investors that Electronic Arts is a "serial overpromiser." He theorizes that EA may have overshot their estimates this year to look better next year by underpromisng and then overdelivering. I wonder if EA made this guy some special promise and didn't deliver, and now he's unleashing his fury. [Spong]

Video-game rental service GameFly going public with a $50 million initial public offering. The IPO registration form that the company filed with the Securities Exchange Commission reveals some interesting blips of info about game-rental service, such as its 334,000 subscriber base as of March 2009.
