To clarify: Design Innovate Communicate Entertain (D.I.C.E.) is an annual conference, and Digital Illusions CE (DICE) is the developer of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Unfortunately, no news of any video game concerning a die or dice is out today.Â
News Blips:Â
• D.I.C.E. Summit 2010 is currently underway, and here are some of the highlights so far:Â
- Richard Garriott, the creator of the Ultima series, plans to get back into the game industry with his new social media company, Portalarium. In addition to making online game apps, they hope to get into a wide array of industries, such as "open learning, open health, open science/environment," etc. which would all be tied together via social networking. [Industry Gamers]
- Speaking with David Crane, the creator of Pitfall, video game designer David Jaffe teased that his next game is "in between God of War and Calling all Cars." [GamePro]
- Disney executives Steve Wadsworth and Graham Hopper won't rule out Epic Mickey coming to "other platforms" in the future, but for now it's a Wii exclusive. [Gamasutra]
• Capcom is having a 50% off sale for various games on the PlayStation Network over the next five weeks. One game per week will be discounted -- starting today with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for $7.49 and Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo HD Remix next Thursday for the same price. Check PlayStation.Blog for the complete list. Do you realize how awesome of a deal MvC2 for $7.49 is? I remember when used copies of that game went for 10 times that amount!Â
• GameStop has a bizarre Bracket Challenge contest underway to promote Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Contestants have a shot at $10,000 by picking which teams of pro gamers "led" by celebrities/professional athletes they think will win in a Squad Rush tournament. Furthermore, GameStop and developer DICE plan to donate $25,000 to the winning team's charity of choice. See, in the end this cross-promotional publicity stunt actually has a purpose.
