I seriously hope that this boycott is some sort of clever viral promotion on Sega's part, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually authentic.

A group of Sonic purists have created a petition to promote boycotting Sonic the Hedgehog 4. They plan to purchase the original Sonic the Hedgehog game on the launch day of the newest installment in an attempt to show Sega their dissatisfaction with the sequel. Keep in mind, their disapproval is based on the small amount of gameplay footage currently available. The question is: Which of the 100 different ports of the game do they plan to buy? The eccentric developer released a public statement to announce the resolution and hint at his new project, which he hopes will have "a greater depth of play than before."
