I seriously hope that this boycott is some sort of clever viral promotion on Sega's part, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually authentic.

A group of Sonic purists have created a petition to promote boycotting Sonic the Hedgehog 4. They plan to purchase the original Sonic the Hedgehog game on the launch day of the newest installment in an attempt to show Sega their dissatisfaction with the sequel. Keep in mind, their disapproval is based on the small amount of gameplay footage currently available. The question is: Which of the 100 different ports of the game do they plan to buy? Over 27,000 people have voted to name a new Derby, England road after video game star Lara Croft. Croft was originally created in Derby, and the enthusiasm for her can be seen via the 89% of the vote that she captured. The road is to be named Lara Croft Way. What's next? A Pac-Man Plaza? Speaking to Wired's Chris Kohler, Nintendo's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing Cammie Dunaway bet the journalist a steak dinner that the new The Legend of Zelda game for Wii will drop in 2010. Kohler is pessimistic that Nintendo would release high-profile Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games all in one year, but Dunaway is confident that the game maker will follow through on their hopeful 2010 lineup. I wish I could bet steak dinners against release dates of games. [Wired]
