Western gamers need this Dragon Quest 25th anniversary collection

This fantastic Dragon Quest 25th anniversary collection goes on sale in Japan on September 15. It likely won't be localized.

I don't blame Square Enix for not wanting to release this collection westward. Dragon Quest is a part of Japan like Call of Duty is rapidly becoming a part of the United States. It's a cultural phenomenon triggering interaction and social understanding well outside its existence as a game.

While bringing a collection this steeped in Japanese cultural meaning and advertising to Western audiences might be difficult, I think Square Enix should still try. I know I'm not the only person who gets excited when they hear that jaunty DQ fanfare. It creeps up and suddenly triggers some of my best gaming memories. And my deep appreciation for slimes...but I accept that I'm weird.

How do you feel about Dragon Quest? Should Square Enix take the risk and localize this anniversary collection or let it remain in Japan? I know that I would love to have this set, even if the included photo galleries feature box art and advertising I've never seen. The question is, am I the only one?

OMG! It comes with its own Mini Medal!

I would buy this for sure. The sad part is that Square Enix likely won't bother even thinking about it. It's Nintendo who has published the latest DQ games in this continent.

Yeah, I'm a little sad that we won't see this in the U.S. Even if the gameplay is very outdated, I still carry geeky memories of surviving the final dungeon of Dragon Quest 1. And the Dragonlord is still one of the most sinister bosses that I had to kill.
