Bitmob's Ten Most-Read Community-Submitted Articles

Have you ever wondered what the most-popular, community-submitted articles on Bitmob are? Perhaps you want to read what the numbers say are the “best” articles on the site, or maybe you’re looking for inspiration to increase the appeal of your own articles. Oh, I know! I bet you want to make a trading card set that features the most-read community members on the site. Good idea! I’ve always wanted an Andrew Hiscock rookie card...

Anyway, I’ve compiled the most-popular, community-submitted articles on Bitmob into a handy top-ten list.

Note: You may notice that some of the articles were written by people that are now staff members; I only included articles written before they were brainwashed into joining the Bitmob cult team.

10. Six Games to Still Look Forward to in 2009 - Mark T. Whitney

9. Uncharted 2: Already Game of the Year - Mike Minotti

8. Top 10 Greatest NES Games Of All Time....That Weren't Made By Nintendo - Matthew Erazo

7. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Review - Frank Anderson

6. Oddworld Inhabitant: An Interview with Lorne Lanning - Toby Davis

The top five are after the jump.

5. Hardcore Gamers' Reaction to Nintendo's E3 Conference - Andrew Hiscock

4. I hate Assassin's Creed, I hate Ubisoft - Matt McMillan

3. Top 10 Hardest Games of All Time - Matthew Erazo

2. Gaming and Cosplay at FanimeCon 2009 - David Ngo

1. Of Video Games and Board Games - Rob Savillo

Lists really do draw in the hits! The numbers don't lie.

Props to Rob Savillo for topping the list!

Any chance to see the actual clicks the articles generated to a number to compare my stuff to?

@Juan: I'm not sure about that. People might not want their numbers made public. I can tell you that your most-read piece is #321 on this site (But that includes the people that work for the site.) That number would be MUCH higher if you compared it only to other community members. Unfortunately, that would take me like, a very long time to do.

@Michael - Lists certainly do well, but it wasn't my intention to encourage everyone to make a bunch of "Top X" lists. Although, if someone has a good idea for a list they should totally go for it. :)

@Aaron - In my magazine writing classes, we were taught how to write list articles, how-to articles and other "filler" (scare quotes intentional) pieces, because in magalogue writing, they make up a lot of the real estate.

I think that it's possible to do the format great justice and produce something memorable. It's also really easy to take the standard approach, so I hope people read what you just said and take it to heart.

@Michael: You're 100% correct. You really can do some good stuff with those formats, but as you said, it's easy to take the "standard" approach, which is what we see far too often.

@Aaron: And of course, by memorable, I don't mean simply coming up with a cool new kind of thing to list off. That's a common solution to a common problem.

As for the uncommon solution... I'll get back to you once I've figured it out myself :P

@Juan my Oddworld interview only has over 12,000 hits right now. So all the others are way beyond what I can phatom.

Even though I can totally check out the hit totals, just knowing Toby's hit count staggers the mind.

I think we need the community to start writing about their video game-themed pants...

What I learned from this, is that my 'Top 10 Games Everyone Loves that I Think are Total Garbage' post should be put out soon.

This should be a monthly feature. Sometimes I leave the site and its hard to know what I missed. Not that hits is always an indication of quality.

13K ish for mine, it got the shit Kotaku'd out of it. I think GoNintendo picked it up as well.

Wow!

I think a ton of my hits came from other sites... but I have no idea how they found the review. I guess a Harry Potter fan site linked it or something. Still, it is an honor to be on this list with so many amazing writers- all of whom I would say are better writers than myself.

My Harry Potter review is a bit hard for me to read now, since I think I have gotten better since then.

This was cool to know though. Thanks for the post Aaron!

Way to backhandedly insult everyone else who made it on this list as well as your readers, Mark. And in one sentence, too! ;)
