Calling All Bitmob Community Members: We Need Your Help! (Free Prizes Involved!)

Since you're reading this, we figure you must kinda sorta like us. Assuming we didn't just completely misread your intentions, and you're one of our dedicated community members that would like to see Bitmob do well, this post is for you.

Because we're new and still growing, we could use your help in getting the word out about Bitmob to a wider audience. Sure you can try some skywriting stunt, or perhaps you can stand on a busy street corner twirling a Bitmob sign (you might as well solicit donations for us while you're at it).

But we have something more modern-age in mind....

You probably already know about our Twitter (twitter.com/Bitmob) and Facebook (facebook.com/Bitmob) pages, which update you with most of our front-page stories each day. We're also starting a new Twitter feed specifically for our community supporters called BitmobTeam (twitter.com/BitmobTeam). This is different from twitter.com/Bitmob, in that BitmobTeam will only contain select links to sites like Digg, Reddit, N4G, etc. that point to stories of ours.

If you're able to help, please follow twitter.com/BitmobTeam (on top of twitter.com/Bitmob), and when you see the links from us, click to Digg, Buzz, or whatever else we have going on. Don't worry -- we plan on being pretty selective about what links to send out here.

As our way of saying thanks, at five random times over the next few months, we're going to select a random follower on the BitmobTeam Twitter page and send him a prize package with a random free game and a random gaming-related goodie. It's totally random!

Thank you for your help and support.

Fantastic addition. As long as you guys are "pretty selective" on what links you post on the Twitter page, it'll be great. And based on the news stories that you post on Bitmob, I'm confident in this idea.

@Adam The more selective twitter is twitter.com/bitmob

Done and done. I had been avoiding Twitter (except for tweets regarding zombie map release dates), and now bitmob temps me with the lure of free games and game swag.

So all we have to do is follow? Or when you tweet under that account, are we supposed to click the link and Digg or whatever?

I clarified the wording a bit. What we're asking for is when you see us send you Digg links or whatnot, to click on them and help us Digg them up (or Yahoo Buzz or whatever). You'll get these links only through Twitter.com/BitmobTeam.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

Is anyone else a little disturbed by this proposition? Granted it's not like anyone is being forced, but shouldn't BitMob succeed because of its quality of writing/staff and not because their legion of fans (myself included) forcing it onto the front page of Digg.

Is the games writing market so saturated that the quality won't naturally rise to the top?

Just a thought I had, wondering what other people think. Maybe I missed the point.

Hey Douglas,

That's a very fair point, but the reality of the business we're in, we need other sites' help to help us get more traffic and reach more people. We don't have any money for marketing or PR, so relatively few people know about is.

We're not artificially inflating numbers by force-Digging stuff that doesn't deserve it. It's more, "Hey, if you guys think more people ought to read this story, then help us spread the word." We can only reach so many people on our own. That's why sites like Digg were invented in the first place - to help people find cool stories they wouldn't have known about otherwise.

Hope that makes sense.
