Discussion Topic - Control

On Friday I had a discussion topic about Demo's.  Then my displeasure with Uncharted 2 came out and was questioned by the community.  So we are here to talk about control of a game.

If the control scheme does not hook me then I wont be into the game really.  It may be sad to say, but I get turned off by the Control scheme's that Developers give.  Yes, I even have a favorite one for Shooter games when I play them.

Now we got to the root of this on why I don't like Uncharted 2.  So does control scheme turn you off to a game or do you bear through the game?  Also what game have you quit due to control?

In this era of selectable button layouts and optional X/Y axis inversion, it shouldn't be an issue to get the controls to feel right. Bad motion controls, on the other hand, can't be remapped which can be a problem. Dealing with the SIXAXIS in PixelJunk Eden is probably the only thing I hate about the game.

It really depends how good the game is. If it's just an okay game with terrible controls, that aren't configurable, then I'll probably just give it up.

But if it's a great game and the controls aren't great, I'll probably just stick with it.

I really like the Uncharted 2 demo, but I do agree that the control scheme isn't conducive to a multiplayer game. However, once I got used to them I was having a good time.

This problem doesn't exist with PC Games. ;)

No, instead we get 2nd rate ports that still tell us to press the right trigger button when we're using the keyboard and mouse.

I have quit every FPS for the DS due to control, for I was in fear of having a crippled hand for the rest of my life.

lol @Jay, so true, play Halo 2 Vista!

I really never grasped the feel of Lost Planet's control scheme. It always felt janky to me. Not sure why, it's rather puzzling.

And Lance, I totally agree with you, FPS in DS has always never been nailed, and always result in slight Carpal Tunnel and hand cramps of epic proportions.

"Army of Two" had a Metroid Primeesq level of complication to it's controls. I think I got sick of it in twenty minutes. Also, "Assassins Creed".

@ Lance- I'm glad I'm not the only one. Metroid on DS is painful.

I've stagnated on Scribblenauts due to the wonky touch controls. It's still fun, but I find myself questioning Maxwell's will to live a little too often.
