Meet the Mob: David Ngo

Greetings. The name's David, though you may know me from my handle, DTJAAAAM. If you're wondering where that username came from, it's composed of the first initials of several important people in my life.

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. My gateway into the world of video games appeared at age two when my uncle Tam presented me with the Nintendo Entertainment System as a birthday gift.

As I aged, my passion for video games and collection grew exponentially. I can usually be found researching gaming news and lore or hunting down more items for my library of over 3,500 games and systems.

While I grew up, EGM and other great video game magazines served as my main reading material. Since I also enjoy writing about gaming as a hobby, I dream of becoming a proper video game journalist one of these days. I know it isn't necessarily the road to riches, but I'm sure it beats working at an arcade or video game retailer.

Both of those "careers" happen to be on my resume. Attending various video game, comic, or anime conventions is another one of my favorite activities. I really enjoy snapping as many photos as possible and documenting my time with ridiculous detail. I feel that doing that helps make my readers feel like they were actually there.

When it comes to my taste in gaming, I can be a bit of an oddball. I tend to avoid most of the more mainstream titles like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Grand Theft Auto IV.

I'm sure that they're great, but I'd rather spend time appreciating obscure video games that catch my eye (Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard, Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia), crazy Japanese imports (Otomedius Gorgeous, DeathSmiles), or retro classics (EVO: Search for Eden, Bucky O'Hare). Oh yeah, I'm also an achievement junkie.

I think that pretty much covers things. I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about another member of the Mob! See you around the community.

I actually have wondered where DTJAAAAM came from! Anyone in there that we would all know?

Is there a difference between an achievement whore and an achievement junkie?

Thanks for sharing in the Meet the Mob David, should we all be expecting a lot of reporting by you from PAX?

Joshua: Doing well, friend. ;D

Lance: Nope, I doubt anyone here would know who my relatives are! Can't really say there's a significant difference between the two, haha. Yes, you can expect another long convention report once all is said and done.

Hello David.I've read a bunch of your posts at 1up. They're very good. I'm not big into the major players either, I take my Disgaea with a side of Etrian Odyssey, hold the Final Fantasy X.(that got away) Pleased to make your aquaintance.

3500 games?! You've gotta have one of the biggest collections out there. With that many titles I've gotta ask--what's your favorite game?

Thomas: Thanks, it's always cool to hear from other 1UP members. Nice to meet you as well!

Brian: I know there are bigger ones out there, but part of the fun is trying to catch up! That's always a tough one for me, but I usually go with Final Fantasy VIII since I'm too lazy to take the time to form a conclusive answer.

Toby: Same here, Toby. It's nice to get a proper intro done after recognizing you from your comments.

David: Agreed, we rock.

Christopher: I definitely don't mind that, haha. Thanks.

Davin: Yep, it's always nice to diversify where I spend my time. See you at PAX!

Etrian Odyssey's one of my favorite series in recent years. I love making my own maps again! Though I guess I always could pull out the graph paper...but why waste paper when I can map out dungeons with my stylus!

Welcome to Bitmob, David. I hope to see plenty of your work in the weeks ahead.
