High fives to the person who spots the Mystery Science Theater 3000 quote below!

News Blips:

Sony sues GeoHot and his fellow hackers over the release of the PlayStation 3 root key. We recently reported that hacker George Hotz (aka GeoHot) discovered and posted the root key that would open the PS3 to running all types of software. After some analysis, many people believed that this method of jailbreaking the PS3 would be irreversible by Sony -- which left the company with only the option of sending in Kratos to take care of GeoHo... Wait, what? Kratos isn't real? What I meant to say is that Sony is suing... Sony is suing GeoHot for violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and other assorted laws. GeoHot says that if he is ordered by a court to cease his actions, he will comply. [PC Mag]

EA will release Mass Effect 2 as a downloadable game on PlayStation Network on January 18 -- the same day it comes out at retail. This is notable first for such a big game on a console. Of course, PC gamers will wonder why this is even news, since they have been downloading their games from services like Steam for almost half a decade. There is no indication that all -- or even most -- future releases from console publishers will include day-and-date availability at retail and online, but this is continued evidence of that inevitability.

Minecraft joins the million-seller club. Markus "Notch" Perrson's quirky, little indie title climbed right past the summit today when its stats page confirmed that more than one million people have paid for the game. One million copies sold of any game is a success, let alone for one with PS1-era graphics. Minecraft is still in beta, which suggests that this isn't the last sales marker we will be reporting about the game.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will provide early quitters a taste of their own medicine. Capcom's fighting games have implemented a system that pairs gamers who quit early enough times only with others who quit early. They've announced this will be returning for MvC3, and why shouldn't it? Now that we are in the age of pervasive broadband connections, this should probably be implemented into every game. Have a wonky connection, you say? Strange that it acted up just when I was about to put up a goose egg on you in NHL 11. No mercy, I say! [Destructoid]
