On a Battlefield Far, Far Away

A group of German modders wants you to put away your M-16 and take up a blaster.

The modding team Black Monkeys has spent the last year developing Galactic Warfare, a total-conversion mod for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The project's set in the galaxy made famous by George Lucas and focuses on multiplayer skirmishes between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.

The mod replaces much of COD4 with models, maps, and environments inspired by the Star Wars films. The Black Monkeys actually replaced the Harriers called in during an airstrike with Y-wings and TIE Bombers! That's quality you rarely see in the modding community.

Galactic Warfare is set to debut "before Christmas." So say goodbye to the deserts of Afghanistan and welcome to the deserts of Tatooine.

Wow, that's actually really cool! They must've spent a ton of time making that, what a great job.

I wonder how Lucas's lawyers are going to like this one.

This may get me to reinstall COD4, just to see how they pull it off. I've played some total-conversion mods of other games -- one mod of Starfleet Command 3 turned all of the Next Generation-era ships into hulls from the original series.

Now why, why, WHY the *%^& can't Lucasarts make as cool a game as this mod? A fast paced, well tuned, FPS set in the Star Wars galaxy would be AMAZING... blasters, driods, ion cannons, c'mon, it's all there George, put some poeple on it.

Battlefield I & II come close, but they aren't well tuned. Oh well, I suppose the man with more money than god has other things on his "to do list" than making kick ass video games (like making terrible sequels to his kick ass movies of yesteryear). I guess we'll have to make do with Old Republic when it comes out...

Omar returns! Turn up the Pharcyde.

I'm surprised the mod made it this far. Cease and desist orders usually find their way into mailboxes much sooner.

I liked the battlefront games, but this looks pretty damned incredible.

wow!

I agree with Jeffrey (and If lucas Arts attempts to place shelf this concept, I really think they should re-consider. This is more like a respectful homage to two really great concepts by merging them into one).
