It's no secret that The Legend of Zelda series contains some of the most identifiable and influential music in video game history. Consequently, the soundtracks have also seen more than their fair share of remixes in a number of different genres.

But post-rock? That's a musical style that even the intrepid Link hasn't explored...until now.

This week, musician Cory Johnson released the final version of his jumbo-sized Zelda EP. And it is glorious. 

Johnson's arrangements go beyond the usual melody-on-distorted-guitar rock remixes you'll often see on YouTube. There's a careful deliberation to the instrumentation and construction here, as shown in the echoing piano of "Lake Hylia," the chiming clean guitar of "Outset Island," the ominous synth of "Majora #2: The Clock," and the funk/Western bass of "Dark World."

That's not to say the album doesn't rock. Oh, it rocks. And it's got a raw, live edge to the production that keeps the tracks from feeling too glossy. The whole thing feels intimate in its energy, like listening to your friend's band in a tiny venue.
