An Argument to End All Arguments
Me
Saturday, September 18, 2010

I'm constantly amazed at how hard writing is.  It's so easy to make a mistake... .  A Robert Frost poem goes, "We dance round a ring and suppose, / But the Secret sits in the middle and knows."  This is how I feel about writing.  When I try to get at the heart of a topic, the middle, I just get more confused.

Writing should be looked at more as a form of expression.  I don't think it should be about finding the ultimate truth about a thing so much as it is about honestly expressing yourself.  Hear it from the master: (substitute writing for martial arts)

What happens when you go to write about a topic?  Is it about making an argument to end all arguments, or expressing how you feel about it?

Nice article. I currently can't find anything to write about although I'm yearning to find that special topic that I can really open into. It seems that all my ideas are making arguments and not expressing my arguments so I quickly throw them away. I'm just going to read and try not to desperately find that topic.

I know what you mean.  If I'm writing a paper that is going to be graded, I'll try to make a convincing argument.  Otherwise, I prefer to write about my own thoughts on a certain topic, it tends to be easier because I usually don't have to worry about backing up my argument.
