Catherine is a game about choosing between two women, each with flaws and strengths. Atlus' creation is a mature, mind-challenging affair that makes us really think about relationship issues. Of course, I can't help but wonder if this kind of deep thinking is beyond the average Call of Duty-obsessed gamer.
My buddy got me back into Black Ops... The other day I was playing Merc Team Deathmatch and almost everyone had their mics plugged in. While in the lobby, someone randomly used a really weird vocal register and said, "Oooh, Yeeeah!" Next thing you know, all the people with a mic are trying to copy him. It didn't stop during the match. In fact by the time the match ended, everyone was still saying it.
And then, the instigator started singing a pitch-perfect rendition of Trololo.
tl;dr ... You hit the nail on the head.
Stereotypes usually only exist because they appear to be true for the majority of players. Or at least, the vocal majority. If you're a COD fan, as many of us are, you can't deny that 9 out of 10 lobbies will eventually turn into a flame war, typically for no reason at all.
But I'm beginning to notice a trend regarding the people attracted by Catherine too. Perhaps there's a flipside to this comic: How would elitist Catherine fans play Call of Duty?
