It Was a Movie: Dead or Alive

I think fighting games have been turned into movies more than any other genre. This baffles me. The plot of every fighter is never much more than an excuse to get an unlikely cast of characters involved in some tournament. Do these stories really need big-screen adaptations? Luckily, I love bad movies.

DOA: Dead or Alive is probably the king of bad fighting-game films. It's not like the series was a masterpiece of storytelling to begin with, so you can imagine how well the film turned out. It's also the only movie I ever saw that actually had life bars for the characters. And, yes, there is a volleyball scene:

The Dead or Alive movie was great for how bad it was. It didn't take itself seriously, but still had some great fight sequences. Just wish they'd have picked some better actors for some of the characters.

The volleyball scene had a ball that was CG. That should already give you the impression of how stupid it would look already.

OK, this looks bad, but...not as bad as I once thought? Netflixable? Hmm...

Instead of hiring porn stars to use as actors in these movie interpretations, I think they should make porn adaptations of our favorite video games. I think they'd hit their market better anyways. No one's going to make fun of the acting in a straight to porn DOA movie. That's where bad acting and attractive people belong; there's no reason to take them out of their element.
