Recently the Modnation Racer beta ended and I was fortunate enough to throughly pick through this game and I have to say...Pretty god damn impressive.  The level of detailed United Front put into this game blows Mario Kart, Little Big Planet and PS Home out of the water.  The game starts off in a common room where other players sign in to a decent size free roam area with a few jump and meet up with other players.  In this room you have the choice of what you want to do whether it's the Modspot, Race Station, view top leaders, change your car/character and check your messages (we'll get into that later).

ModNation is all about creating and that's what it delivers.  Accessing either the car, levels or character is as easy as two clicks.  Most of the creative features were locked, leaving people with 8 sets of eyes...out of 260!  Yet, people were using what little quantaty they had to shift, duplicate and even use a colour wheel to make something original.  People created such characters as the monoploy guy, a gundam and even popa smurf.


Pretty much the car and level creator act the same but compared to LBP it's MUCH easier to create something fun by screwing around and hitting it with the auto-finisher and BOOM!  You got a fully design level.  In regards to the racing...loading...loading...you guessed it.  The same problems that LBP face is back.  Constantly reconnecting and loading races was a downer.  Hopefully this problem was address because the communication is one of the best I have seen.  I'm talking XBL calibur.  Sending messages, adding friends, muting players and jumping from game to game has never been easier.  Player can access this from lobby, in a race, the common area, wherever and the responsiveness is great.

The racing is just like Mario Kart with a little bit of a learning curve on the power slide.  4 weapons were available and accumulating the power ups will upgrade the item to a max of level 3 and trust me, at level 3 the people ahead of you are toast.  Modnation is a well balance game that's not only fun but will bring out that winning drive in you.  People will appriciate the smoothe and polished graphics and little touchs like sound effect while creating your character.  This game is a must buy and I would even go as far as saying a must pre-order because this is something you want day 1.
