Black-Ops Review: Biggest Disappointment of 2010

Wednesday, December 08, 2010

I have just recently picked up the new Call of Duty: Black-Ops and after playing it I found it to be the biggest waste of time and money.  Upon throughly going through the game, I found disappointment and lazy development by Treyarch.

Everything from a shit stroy line that has your character jumping all over the map (with out even leaving a chair) explaining a story about how you ended up where you are.  Basically you're in a Save by the Bell Flashback and there is no Kelly Kapowski.

During the single player campaigne, what you will find is the EXACT same gameplay and character designs as Call of Duty: World at War.  You will have chinese people rushing you, staking out in trees and having the characters repeatedly having their arms blown off (in my case 7 times in a row).

Everything from the WEAK knife kills which look like you're cutting butter to the piss poor sound track that sounds like a single guitar playing in someones car holder after drinking a bakers dozen of beer.  Don't believe me?  Listen to the music in escaping with Dr. Clarke level.  Granted there is some license music in there but it's out of place and really kills the moment of the game.

It makes me wonder what Treyache did for 2 years?  I know it wasn't working on multiplayer, because they took out all the fun stuff like tanks and such from WaW.  I don't get it.  This was a half-ass game and in noway should it be appreciated.

This is hands down the biggest disappointment of 2010 for me and I can safely say that this will be the last CoD Game that I purchase.

You should be ashamed of yourself treyarch.

3/10 - And that's just for DOA mini game.

I have to disagree with some of the points you made.

Just because Treyarch confronted their old formula for World at War, doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. They were just using their experience and funneling that into Black Ops. Not using it as a means to cut corners or be lazy.

I also believe they didn't want players to spend so much time with the knife, as it's implemented to help out gamers in the middle of a close quarters, reload situation (just one scenario). So in result, they didn't feel a need to change it to be more interesting.
