The cable guy is here, so hopefully I’ll have Internet access in time to post this. Spoiler warning: Yes.

News Blips:

News Blips: GameStop Android tabletGameStop plans on releasing a gaming-focused Android tablet. The retailer told GamesIndustry.biz that it has chosen to use Google’s mobile platform to develop its hardware. As someone who writes about games, I’ve had GameStop’s obituary in my head for quite some time now. Their eventual fizzling out of existence was an inevitability, and that has obviously prompted the chief officers of the company to think outside the box. It is difficult to tell if this is a bold move toward permanent relevance or a wild shot in the dark. At least GameStop is attempting to execute some type of plan because accepting the status quo -- see Blockbuster -- would lead to a slow death as digital content quickly takes the reins. [1UP]

Trenched to be retitled Iron Brigade everywhere and will get a survival mode DLC update for free. When Trenched was released in Europe, the Trench board-game maker sued for trademark infringement. The EU courts held up the title’s release until publisher Microsoft and developer Double Fine gave in and changed the name to Iron Brigade. That solved one problem, but it created another. Iron Brigade and Trenched -- despite being the exact same game -- won’t work with one another on Xbox Live. This means that the WWI mech game will soon be known by its European name in all territories. I know what you are thinking: These changes are damaging my psyche! How will Double Fine reimburse me for my mental anguish? The developer is one step ahead of you. When the title switch occurs, a free update will add a new survival mode. [GiantBomb]

Electronic Arts’ Chief Financial Officer doesn’t expect Battlefield 3 to outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The world can be broken down into many categories. Two of those are marketing hype and financial reality. For months we’ve been hearing some serious sass out of EA about what its Battlefield 3 was going to do to Activision’s Call of Duty -- y’know, the standard first-person-shooter smack talk. Now, however, the rhetoric out of the publisher is tad more mature and sober…because CFO Eric Brown, the company’s head money man, is doing the talking. “The [Call of Duty] franchise did about 23 million units worldwide,” Brown said. “We don’t expect to surpass them with this year’s Battlefield 3, just to be very clear.” He did add that investors should expect a reasonable growth over the franchise’s previous entry, Battlefield: Bad Company 2. In the end, I just want to play the one that makes it the easiest to kill snipers. [GamesIndustry.biz]

I refuse to call it Iron Brigade. Long live Trenched!
