News Blips:
Super Meat Boy co-developer Edmund McMillen releases The Binding of Isaac on Steam for PC and Mac. “The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated RPG shooter that pulls heavy influence from The Legend of Zelda, Smash TV and Roguelikes like Spelunky, Crawl and Desktop Dungeons,” McMillen said in a note to the press. Hell, the game is only $5, which is a small price for something so different. Actually, you know what? I just remembered Super Meat Boy’s ludicrous difficulty. Now the same guy has made something in the notoriously challenging Rogue-like genre? Sounds painful. Although it could be worse...it could be The Binding of Chris Isaak.
Pay what you want for the new Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle. This round of excellent indie games is headlined, unsurprisingly, by turn-based strategy game Frozen Synapse. Trine, Shadowgrounds: Survivor, Shadowgrounds, Splot, and a prototype of Jackclaw round out the bundle. As always, gamers can throw any amount of money at the developers, a select group of charities, or both. As a veteran of each and every Humble Indie Bundle, let me provide a little protip: Pay more than the average. The purveyors of these deals typically dump in some bonuses for the more generous. Head to hthttp://humblebundle.com for all the deets.
The pretty faces of L.A. Noire will grace the PC on November 8. Team Bondi’s crime-adventure will come packed with all of the DLC for $49.99. While that may sound like a good deal, not everyone has a rig to meet the recommended specifications. In that case, an OnLive version will drop day and date with Windows. I usually spend all November playing guitar outside a lonesome church in the middle of a vast plane, but I think this year I’ll stay inside and enjoy me some sleuthing.
Nintendo unsheathes The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition for free. As part of the company’s 25th Anniversary celebration for the series, they’re giving away copies of this underplayed multiplayer gem. All that is required is a 3DS and an Internet connection to log into the eShop. Unfortunately, that is where the Internet stops being useful, as the game isn’t playable online.
