If you've never played a Bonk game, you're really missing out. Hudson Soft's platforming caveman is probably one of the strangest characters ever made and the star of several vibrant and beautifully animated titles.
The Bonk experience varies wildly from platform to platform and even between countries. In the PC Engine version of Bonk's Adventure, he turns into a girl whenever he eats a meat power-up. They changed this in the American version. His costume change is so slight that it's difficult to see why anyone took offense to it, but when the TurboGrafx-16 was relevant, companies often deemed many games too difficult or risky to sell to Western gamers.
The arcade version of Bonk's Adventure is somehow more manic than any of the other games I've seen, and it features the female version of Bonk.

Interesting fact: Hudson Soft published Bonk's Adventure, but two other studios actually developed the title -- Red Company and Atlus.
