Bitmob LogoUPDATE: We're extending the deadline to 12:00 P.M. PST, on Monday, February 1, 2011. We want to give the community one last chance to submit their favorite articles before the voting starts.

We’ve posted the most-read community stories of the year (for part one: click here, and for part two: click here). Now we want to know which articles you, the community, loved.

Post a link and why it’s your favorite in the comments, and sometime in the next week, we’ll let the community vote for some conventional and not-so-conventional awards (categories to be determined).

Please follow these simple rules when nominating an article.

You can:

 • Nominate any article written by a community member.
 • Nominate more than one article.
 • Nominate your own article.
 • Suggest a category in which your nomination may be applicable. Some suggestions: funniest article, best article featuring Nolan North, best review, best article written for screen or theatre, or simply best article.
 • Staff posts are ineligible, but you can nominate a post by a current staffer that they wrote before they joined. (For example you may nominate any article by Jeff Grubb published prior to November 20, 2010...if you are confused, just post it anyway, and we’ll figure it out).

The nominations close at 12:00 P.M. PST, on Monday, February 1, 2011.

Keep in mind: We’re looking for the most creative, the funniest, and the most insightful community articles from 2010. We can’t guarantee that your nomination will make the short list for any category, but all submissions will be considered.

I discovered this one on the Bitmob Community Writer for Evan Killham last month, and I was sad to have missed it at the time:

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/more-god-of-war-3-hate-in-defense-of-hera

This is probably the funniest thing I've read on here, and a worthy nomination. Really, really good stuff.

I'd like to nominate Mike Rousseau's "Fog of War" for best community writing challenge of the year.

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/bitmob-community-writing-prompt-fog-of-war

It took a lot of research on Mike's part and was far and away the most helpful to me as a writer. I also think it spurred some good entries (including my own.)

I'd also like to nominate Alex Martin's piece on fixing competetive multiplayer for best article of the year.

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/laws-of-the-game-the-offside-rule-in-fpses

Alex had a great point that online matches should be set up more as sports than as stories. A good read that had a good message.

And a nomination for A-Cronk's efforts on Bitmob/1up Field Week. It was a great idea and I had a lot of fun participating. Would love to see it make a return this year!

And a nomination for Suriel Vazquez's piece on how to make a good video game movie. It's a good piece, but I'm really nominating it for best image use (for the badass "Wizard" poster.)

And lastly, if I may be so bold, I'd like to nominate my own article on my Red Dead Redemption hunting stories.

http://bitmob.com/articles/next-gen-oregon-trail-tales-from-red-dead-redemption

I had a ton of fun writing this article, photoshopping some of the images and reading the feedback and some of their own stories. And then I had even more fun going back and playing The Oregon Trail again for nostalgia's sake.

This was my favorite Civilization article on Bitmob of last year.

I'd like to suggest a category for Most Touching/Moving Article, and put forward these three nominations:

Brendon Mroz - Object Lessons

Brian Shirk - Fear Not the Pen

Oh, I did say that this was one of the best Bitmob articles ever in the comments, so I should nominate this article too.

Oh gosh I really wish I had a list of all the awesome articles I read in 2010.

I'd like nominate Matthew Floratos for "Best article". I'm a sucker for Half-Life! It's written brilliantly, goes into great detail, and reaffirms my love for Episode 2 as well as my eagerness for Episode 3.

http://bitmob.com/articles/on-hl2-episode-two-linearity-the-g-man-and-episode-three

And I'd like to nominate my own article for "Best interview". This is the first time I've interviewed game developers, even if they aren't "games" per se. Found it so exciting to cover some innovative new products.

http://bitmob.com/articles/life-is-but-a-game-games-that-help-instill-everyday-good-habits

And I really enjoyed writing this one about game docos, as well as all the feedback I received. I'd like to nominate it for "Best article about improving the games industry". I've seen a lot of those kind of articles around Bitmob!

http://bitmob.com/articles/why-the-games-industry-needs-a-good-documentary

And to put myself alongside some competition I'd like to nominate Suriel Vazquez for "Best article about improving the games industry". Even though it's 'technically' about Hollywood. Just coming off from watching Scott Pilgrim I loved Suriel's ideas for Hollywood to make better videogame films.

I, too, would like to nominate a piece by Mike Rousseau, one he wrote at the beginning of the year: "Darksiders is an Honest Game"

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/darksiders-is-an-honest-game

In this piece, Mike expounds on one of Darksiders' major redeeming qualities: That it simply isn't afraid to be a game (and a damn good and well-inspired game at that).  His article even attracted the attention of two of Vigil Games' developers, each lauding him for both his kind words and accurate insight.  Good stuff, Mike!

Also, I'm pretty sure Mike Minotti was already a staff member at this point, but this "article" needs to be mentioned, as I'd never laughed harder at something on Bitmob:

As tacky as it is, I'm nominating my HipHopGamer profile as it took a hell of a lot of work to put together:

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/spinning-the-belt-an-interview-with-the-hiphopgamer

I'd say that a Best Interview or Profile category could be interesting, even if I didn't win. :P

I know I said I was done, but I thought of another nomination. I'd like to nominate Evan Killham's "Splitscreens" for best recurring feature or the like. Impossible to pick my favorite one, but the series was a great idea and was always very interesting.

I guess I'll go ahead and not nominate any of my stuff cause um..that just seems strange.

Lance Darnell's first Bitmob Community Show on Damsels in Distress was awesome and I really think it deserves some love:

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/the-bitmob-community-show-episode-001

I'll double the nomination for Evan Killham's Splitscreen segments and also throw in some other community segments that I wish were still around/someone would do again:

Mob Rule - Seriously, this is what Bitmob means in its purest form. Check out Jeff Grubb and Andrew J. Hiscocks' editions of it:

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/mob-rule-finish-the-sentence-q2009-was-the-year-ofq

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/the-mob-rule-murdering-your-darlings

Field Week - Alex Cronk-Young knocked it out of the park with this and, between him, Cody Winn, and a slew of other people got two websites working together on a ton of fun stuff. Not only did we have Bitmob's community-focused site, we had 1Up tagging along for the ride. How awesome is that?

Bitmob High Score Challenge -  I WANT MOAR GRUBB!

James DeRosa's Community Jukebox - I never responded to these as often as I wanted to (mostly because I'm not as musically sound as most of the guys who did), but the 'let it ride' option was usually my soundtrack for the day at work.

I miss Travis McReynolds and his "How to Make a Gamer Laugh" segments -- so I nominate those:

I'll go ahead and second that nomination for your Hip-Hop Gamer profile for my Article of the Year, Dennis. I loved that one, it sparked a lot of great (and inflammatory!) dialogue in the comments section, and I walked away with it filled with more questions than answers. Extremely thought provoking stuff.

Of all the articles I wrote this year, I'm proudest of my two-part interview with James Swirsky, one of the directors of Indie Game: The Movie, so I'm gonna go ahead and nominate that for Best Interview of the Year. I'm really pumped for this film, and if you haven't read that interview yet, I'd encourage you to do so.

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/indie-game-the-movie-the-interview-part-2

Finally, for Funniest Article of the Year, I'm going with Rick Knight's EXTREME review of the Shadow Broker DLC. I like all of em, but this one's my fave. Great job, home dizzawg. Now when are you gonna do Kirby's Epic Yarn?

More nominations for "Best Non-Article":

Brian Petro-Roy's "Full Motion Video" http://bitmob.com/articles/full-motion-video-episode-1

@Chase Thanks for the nomination! I'll suggest a different category for it -- Best Backseat Driving (Where non-developers opine on game design) -- and suggest Cameron Pershall's "Video Games Don't Have to Be Fun" as a contender.

http://www.bitmob.com/articles/hurts-so-good

And I second Evan's nomination of FMV. His Disc Golf documentary was really interesting and well-presented too.

I nominate Alex Martin's "Undead Nightmare: A Dream to Wake Up From", I thoroughly enjoyed Alex's look at the dlc.

And while I'm here I might aswell nominate myself, I'm quite fond of my "Style before gameplay" article. Even if it did end up a bit pointless I think I got across the gist of what I was thinking.
