On September 23rd 2009, I received an email from Sony inviting me to be involved in a public Beta test – please keep in mind I’ve never tested anything in my life!
A dream come true?
Absolutely!
So during the past week, I’ve been logging on and doing my best to find and report any faults. Writing on the PSN forum has also been a first time experience as I discover a wealth of knowledge and a range of interesting people in the forums.
Yet, one question still burns in the back of my mind – how much of the game can I discuss and when can I discuss them?
I’m eager to share with everyone my experiences and thoughts about the game and about being involved in a public beta test.
For some of you in the community, you may already be veterans at this aspect. If so, any hints or advice over how I should approach the experience?
And whilst I’m reflecting over the issue of making the most of opportunities, my friend brought up an interesting question. Why doesn’t DICE turn the downloadable Battlefield 43 into something larger?
I believe DICE were “impressed” with the reception when they released the B43 download. With such a great start one would think they’d continue to keep the ball rolling.
My mate and I have grown fond of B43. We’ve never played any Battlefield games before and to find ourselves returning to this three map and one air-to-air supremacy game over and over again has left us thinking – It’s great fun, why don’t they make a full game?
The fact that there is still a reasonable number of individuals playing on the server would imply an opportunity to build an alternative product (in the same lines as Activision has with COD:WAW and MW) to their next release: Battlefield 2.
DICE, in my eyes, are doing pretty darn well with creating games that people like to play. Just look at Battlefield heroes for the PC. The last time I read about it, it was reaching the 2 million mark.
That’s impressive!
Does DICE have any plans beyond releasing a PC port?
I understand Battlefield 2 is preparing to take centre stage, but with B43 doing so well as the “support band” why not let it have its own centre stage?
I have found it difficult to comprehend why I do not see DICE taking larger measures to offer a fully realised B43 with more maps and weapons as DLC.
Surely they realise the audience is waiting for an encore from this small download?
All I can say is, I’d pay for more B43 expansion. Even if they don’t go down that road, patching up to polish the game would certainly keep the fans happy.
So DICE, if you are listening – I think B43 is a great opportunity begging to be explored.
