News Blips:

Nintendo Media Summit Roundup: On the Wii side of things, the Big N plans to release Super Mario Galaxy 2 on May 23, Sin and Punishment 2: Star Successor on June 7, and Metroid: Other M on June 27.  As for WiiWare, Mega Man 10 should be making its old-school return to the Wii on March 1, and the update of cult favorite Cave Story should launch March 22. In the handheld sector, Nintendo is set to unleash the DSi XL in North America on March 28, for $190. It looks like fanboys who complain about the company's lack of dedication to hardcore gamers will have little to complain about this summer. [Kotaku]

Capcom's Chief Operating Officer of North America and Europe, Mark Beaumont, passed away yesterday morning as result of a heart attack. Beaumont was well-known in the international video game industry for the past 25 years -- he worked with companies such as Warner Interactive, Activision, Data East, Psygnosis, and Atari. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and co-workers. [MCV]

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, Eric Brown, the chief financial officer of Electronic Arts, said that current consoles "have a long way to go with respect to pricing." He pointed out that in the previous generation, almost half the number PlayStation 2 units sold at the $149 or less price point. I agree with this man -- considering that I don't own an Xbox 360 or PS3 (gasp). But that might have more to do with me being a broke, unemployed college grad. [IGN]

Philadelphia newspaper, The Bulletin currently has an article that covers the rise of "Satanic-Themed Video Games" in recent years. "Avid gamer" Lance Christian details various titles, including Dragon's Age Origins, Dante's Inferno, Guitar Hero, Bayonetta, and Darksiders, for their devil-worshipping overtones. Supposedly "game publishers are cashing in on the satanic, anti-Catholic and the general anti-religion content themes," but unfortunately, I think that executives wouldn't even fund these same games if Jesus was the protagonist. Jesus should've starred in Bayonetta? Gonna have to grow out that beard.

Wow, another ridiculous hit job act by a conservative newspaper on video games? Somebody stop the presses!
