Rumblings from the Internet indicate that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 may finally be on the way. As a huge fan of the series, I'm really excited. Now, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had one of the largest rosters of any fighting game, but many great Marvel and Capcom characters were sadly absent from that epic rumble. Do you feel a list coming on?
These are the characters that I feel need to be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The words "wish list" may be in the title of the article, but this is really more of an ultimatum. Include these characters, or I will whine on Twitter. A lot.
Phoenix Wright
He was once rumored to be in the running as a character in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but it was not to be. This was a crime against gamers everywhere. Phoenix Wright has emerged as one of the great new gaming characters of the last decade, and his outlandish style would make him perfect for such an over-the-top fighting series.
I've heard some argue that it would be impossible to make a move-list for Phoenix Wright. Bull. Have you ever heard of a Sega Saturn game called Fighters Megamix? A Daytona race car was a playable character in it. If an automobile can mix it up, then why not a blue-suited lawyer?
Thor
How the hell was Thor not in Marvel vs. Capcom 2? They had over 50 characters in that game, and they left out Thor, the Avenger and God of Thunder himself? Well, boo to that. Thor is the most obvious Marvel character to add to the MvC3 roster. It shouldn't be hard to come up with a move-set for a guy who controls lightning and has a habit of throwing a giant hammer around.
Besides, this means I can finally make my awesome Avengers team with Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. Sorry, Hulk. You may be a great character, but I wouldn't call your stint with the Avengers very memorable.
Protoman
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had four Mega Man characters in it. None of these were Protoman. Unacceptable. Now, I love Mega Man as much as any self-respecting 8-bit gaming fan, but the character is kind of lame. Let's just admit it. He's a goody-two-shoes with a prepubescent voice and "animal friends." Protoman, on the other hand, is mysterious and cool.
He also has a shield, which I imagine would come in handy against those annoying hadouken-spammers. Seriously, guys. Learn a new move.
Deadpool
Deadpool is a Marvel character who has risen significantly in popularity since MvC2's release. With his own on-going series, a bunch of mini-series, and even had a cameo in that awful Wolverine movie, if you don't know who Deadpool is now, you probably will soon enough. Lucky for you, because he's awesome. Remember how Spider-Man used to be funny but then became whiny and sad? Deadpool is a million times funnier than Spider-Man ever was, and that's not an exaggeration. I had scientists run those numbers for me. Scientists with lab coats.
Deadpool's weapons of choice include dual katanas and dual pistols, with a myriad of explosives. Why would you keep him out of a fighting game?
Leon Kennedy
Having Jill Valentine in MvC2 was cool, if you like old, boring Resident Evil games. I only like that good one with the Spanish bug-cult. So if we're going to have any Resident Evil characters in MvC3, let's make it Leon Kennedy. Imagine him throwing a giant spear from a small motor boat for his special move! He can also shoot people with a gun. Sounds like a decent tactic for a fight.
Also, I heard Leon has a real way with "escort missions." You know what I'm talking about, ladies. Rawrrrr.
Doc Ock
MvC2 had its fair share of villains. Sadly, they were mostly bad ones. I mean...Thanos? I had to wait for someone to invent Wikipedia before I had any idea who the hell that was. Spider-Man villains, on the other hand, are awesome. They were also sadly lacking in MvC2. Let's fix that by adding Spidey's most memorable foe, Doc Ock! Just look at all those tentacles! Seem like he could attack people with those. Just give him the chance!
You know what else Doc Ock was in? Spider-Man 2. And that was awesome. Now, I'm not suggesting that the good doctor's absence from MvC2 made it not awesome, but think how much MvC3 will benefit from his presence!
Arthur
Arthur has been around since 1985, but he gets little love when it comes to these Capcom crossovers. Actually, he was a partner character in the first Marvel vs. Capcom. Remember, those weird characters who you could summon to attack with just one move? Yeah, that's what he was relagated to.
While a lot of the partner characters from MvC were promoted to full-fledged fighters in MvC2, the Ghosts 'n Goblins hero got dissed. It's time we correct that mistake. Just think how hilarious his death animation will be with him standing in his underwear.
The Punisher
The Punisher punishes people. How can he not be in any Marvel fighting game? Do you want to tell him he can't be in? Do you!? I didn't think so.
Most heroes methods include diplomacy, deductive reasoning, or boring brute strength. The Punisher likes to torture people and shoot them in the nuts. Well, I don't know if he actually ever shot someone in the nuts. Sounds like something he would do. That would make a pretty good Super Combo.
Just saying.
That's it for me. How about you guys? Who would you like to see in Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
